I have a question I never in my life (pre beardie slave life that is) thought I'd have to ask. What is the best way to sort Dubias by size? I have an overload and Sid hasn't been eating them at all! I'd like to sort them to feed him just mediums or something, and maybe sell a bunch off.

I think I saw on here somewhere that someone drilled various sized holes in different bins and shook them out? Anyone know what I mean? I have a lot, and that would probably be the easiest for me. I have probably two thousand roaches with more babies popping up.

Thanks!!

Hey, I think I know what video your talking about. The kid had those white paint buckets and drilled holes big enough only for the babies to fall through. It should definitely work. It worked for the kid on the video so I dont see why it wouldnt for you or anyone else. I plan on doing the same once I get my colony running. Just drill a bunch of holes in any one bucket but make the holes big enough only for the size dubias you want to seperate and dump your whole colony into it and just shake it like a salt shaker lol. You can use just one bucket if you want to seperate just the babies or you can have various buckets with different sized holes for different sized roaches. Thats up to you. Good luck :)

I used large tupperwares instead of buckets. You need a size above and below the ones you want to sort. So for mediums, you want to screen out all the smaller one then all the larger ones. They are tricky sometime though, some pretty big ones can fit thru some small holes. All in all it works pretty well

i tried the sorting buckets and i have a really hard time when it came down to the babies and the poop.. maybe i was doing it wrong.. idk.
But now what i do is pick up the egg flats and gently shake/tap it so just the poop comes off and not the roaches... the shake the same egg flat into a clean bin.. i do this will all the egg flats.. empty the dirty bin clean it and replace the egg flats.. then i pick the adults of out the other bin and the go back into the now clean bin.. i have no poop with the nymphs..

I have that problem too, esp with moults clogging the holes in the small sorte. I get lots of babies living in the frass and under the food dishes. I do basically the same thing, but to get the stragglers out I put a couple egg crates on end and leave a bright light on over the tub. Most will crawl into the crates to get away from the lights.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
