Hey,
I want to start a colony of dubia roches for my bearded dragon and leopard gecko. For those two reptiles, how big should i make my colony. What size plastic tub should i get. and what should i start with. And how do i get the baby roaches out easy for my baby bearded dragon.

**also, im doing this because my lizards dont seem to like to chase crickets but they love worms cuz they dont mmove fast lol.

Controling the numbers in your roach colony may be vital to insure you have ample supply. Below is information about how to figure this out. This information was written up by someone who has kept dubias for years.

How to control the numbers in your roach colony
By: Kim K.

Roach Stats:
Birthrate: 20-30 babies once a month (approx every 30days)
Growthrate: 3-5 months to reach adulthood
(Numbers based on Dubia Roaches, adjust for your species)

Overview:
My method is based on the simple idea of maintaining a preset number of Adult Females. By estimating how many roaches you need per month, you can estimate the number of adult females you need for breeding. Ideally you can balance these numbers and only produce what you need.

Setup:
You need two roach containers. One container is for your breeding group of adults. The second container is for all the offspring you will be feeding off. Use egg crates with no substrate.

The Plan:
It’s no simpler then once a week, go thru your adult breeding tank, and move all baby roaches to your baby/feed off tank. Do not use substrate in your tanks or it will be difficult to find the babies. Maintain an awareness of the largest size roach your=2 0animals can eat and feed off all babies before they grow too large to feed off. If you find roaches are growing larger then your animals can eat, you are producing too many roaches. If you find your running short, add more females into your breeder tank.

The Estimate:

Estimating how many breeding females you need, is going to be slightly difficult since factors such as temperature can affect production rates.

Since many species produce between 20-30 babies a month, You can start your ball park estimate by diving the number you need by 20. (ie. if you need 600 a month to feed, try 30 adult females)

If you live in an area with cold winters, cooler house temperatures may reduce breeding, and you may need to add additional females to offset the reduction.

How to Sex the Roaches:
Compare the last body segment size

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
