My dubia colony is doing great! I'm so excited.

All this started off with 5 adults (3 females and 2 males) and a hand full of other sizes off of someone on craigslist. I gave them an orange to treat them the other day and it took them literally a matter of seconds to notice I had put them in there and only a minute later to have them crawling all over it! There are more babies than I can count. I feed off my large nymphs for a while and now I need to wait while the little ones grow up so I can feed him more.

It's pretty cool when you start noticing them growing and reproducing. My colony is also booming but unfortunately my 2 dragons are both brumating and not eating, so I have thousands of nymphs and more new ones everyday. I guess I need to start selling some off before I run out of space.

Congrats on your colony!

Thank you! I'm not sure what my Kenny is doing. He is slowing down but it still eating. He misses his roaches! I have to feed him crickets for the time being while the little ones grow and he certainly likes them less than dubias. He will just wait until a cricket walks in front of him to eat it. If there is a dubia in site he chases it down  .

How many large nymphs do you feed your adults? Kenny is pretty unpredictable. I don't think I can use the "whatever they can eat in 15 minutes" rule. He can eat 10 large nymphs in under 5 minutes!

I have 2 adult dragons and I feed them both adult male dubias. depending on the day, they will each eat 5-6 each.

They both get salads first thing in the morning and then for dinner they get roaches. I find that they will eat their salad more readily if they don't have anything more appetizing first thing when they wake up.

Ahh okay. It is so interesting how different people's bearded dragon feeding schedules are. I feed mine salads all week long and then he gets his live feeders on the weekend. He used to get his live feeders every other day alternating with salads when I was trying to fatten him up because he was on the skinny side when I adopted him. I switched because I didn't want him getting too chubby on me

If you think them hitting an orange is freaky....try putting a slice of white bread in there.

It's like watching a stop-motion horror flick as the entire colony swarms over that slice of bread

Squash is a fun one too.
I cut the seed end off the butternut squash when I prepare it and give that to the roaches. They core out the soft part and eventually even the skin. It's just clean seeds when they are done.

I have put squash in there as well. They eat that super quick.

My colony can strip all the meat from the orange peel overnight. I slice 2 up at a time and they will demolish it overnight. They love the citrus.

One night my wife put 4 leftover fish sticks in the tub and the next morning they were gone. They're roaches, they will eat most everything. I take the scraps from dinner and use that to feed mine. They love fruits and vegetables; meat (cooked chicken for example) they will eat, but not as fast.

How cool! My colony is a bit disproportionate right now or I bet they would eat just as ruthlessly haha :D. I have a surplus of babies and mostly adults. There are some small/ medium nymphs running around but not nearly as many as the amount of babies I have!

my guys get all the leftover greens from my tortoises and the beardies at the end of the day, any slices of stale bread, kitchen veg peelings, and any salad else thats about to go to waste. They get orange and kitty/dog food too. All of it will be destroyed before it goes off in there - i've never had to remove off food from their tub!

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
