Finally they are here. I got my order of roaches from the roach guy. I ordered 150 mixed sizes and got the breading kit. Here's the problem now. What do I have to do. Do i have to separate them? I got a screen that came with the kit. Sorry, this might sound dumb, is the screen just so they don't come out, or it is to separate them?
I got the bran too. Could please somebody tell me what to do. How to go by breeding them..
thank you

the screen is for the hole you have to cut in the top of the bin you are going to keep them in, for ventilation. You have to hot glue or ? the screen in place. No you don't need to seperate them, just stand the eggcrates up, feed them, hydrate them, and keep them warm. They will do the rest. By the way, I checked the RoachGuys web site , he has a care sheet for roacheshttp://theroachguy.com/caresheet.htm

mine look like this

Yep, what he said ^^^^

A printed copy should have been included with your order from Jason. It has all the basics on there. Very simple, put them all in the same ventilated tote, add the roach chow (or any dry food like dog food, oatmeal, etc.. variety is good) and the water crystals. Then let them do their thing, they are exceptionally easy to breed. Keep the temperature inside the tote between 85-95 degrees (you may have to get a heat pad or something else if your house is too cold where you keep them at). Every 2-3 days check on your water crystals, add a little more water to them to rehydrate if needed. Remove any uneaten wet food and top off the dry food as needed. You can do a search for Dubias here on the forums and there are a lot of posts detailing people's setups and methods. They are all basically the same.

Two big notes I would add
A) Don't disturb the roaches any more than needed. The less they are disturbed, the better they will breed. They actually thrive on neglect!
B) Resist the temptation to begin feeding some off now. If you feed them off, you will be losing your future breeders and it will take much longer to get a self-sustaining colony. Figure out how many of them you will need to feed per a month, then count up all of your adult females once they are breeding good. If you needed 1500 roaches per a month for feeders (50x a day) then divide that number by 15 (some people like to use 20 here). The end result is how many breeding adult females you will need before you are producing that number and some extras to replace the old breeders and allow for expansion of your colony. So in this case it would take 100 adult females before you could safely begin feeding from your colony. Hope that helps.

The white ones are freshly shed roaches. Like a lot of other insects, their skeleton is an exoskeleton, meaning basically that their skin is their skeleton. In order to grow, they must shed this exoskeleton and replace it with a new one that is larger. After they have shed, the new exoskeleton is white like you see and allows for their body to grow a bit. After about 24 hours or so they should be back to their normal color. I am not sure how many times Dubia shed, but it is probably around 8 times until they become adults. Once they are adults, they will no longer shed.

Females typically molt 8 times or so, and males can molt up to 13 times before reaching adult hood. They will live for over a year after that.

I set up my colony about 2 months ago and I'm seeing babies now. Just keep them warm, fed & watered. The babies are so cute. There are also almost microscopic dots crawling around.... are those new babies?

One white one is quite large, the other two are small. There are a bunch of babies in there too. Thank you roach guy. Awesome service, fast shipping. Very happy with it.
Thank you for all the king responses. I will keep you posted on my colony.

There are some very knowledgable roach people here! Don't be afraid to ask any questions you have, most everyone on this forum are decent, helpful folk who will be glad to offer first hand advice. Good luck on raising your roaches!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
