Dry/flaky skin?

Hello!

Our beardie is ~1.5 years old, and he's started showing dry/flaky skin on his beard. He just shed the rest of his beard 2 weeks ago, and the problem appeared about a month ago.

I'm unsure if it's scale rot, a stuck shed, or something else. I had our vet look at it and she suspected it was just shed, but that was two weeks ago and it appears to be worsening. Proper tank setup per this website, bathed 3x a week. Very active, eating/pooping regularly.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance! Pictures below - first is three weeks ago, second is today.

Perfectly normal , he's in shed .

They all do it.

He's only 18 months old, so still got maybe 6 months of growth in him, so expect a few more sheds, after that the sheds become lots less frequent and very piecemeal.

3 baths per week is very excessive unless beardie
>>> drinks the bath water
>>> enjoys it
in which case it's perfectly OK to endulge him.

My 18 month Peppa has only had 4 baths in her time with us (she came to us at 5 weeks old) , her brother has had no baths . My older beardies Rex and Puff had only a few baths on average each year.

Hi Cerko, for the most part it's just an irregular shed as was mentioned, but there is a bit of trauma /scale rot [ nothing at all serious ] there as well. You can apply a bit of neosorin there or better yet some raw, unpasteurized honey diluted with a tiny bit of warm water. Unpasteurized honey is a great antimicrobial. If you do use it, be sure there are no loose bugs in the tank that would be attracted to his beard for the honey.
