Hey everybody, I'm new to posting but have been lurking around for a little bit. I figured since I finally acquired a darling beardie I'd finally come out from the shadows.
First off I'd like to share that this is not my first dabble into the wonderful world of herpetology, nor is it my first dabble with beardies, it just happens to be that Draiga is the first that is actually mine. I've been around tons of different kinds of animals through out my life including a wide array of reptiles such as camen, snakes, big lizards, a few other randoms and of course a bearded dragon or two. But apparently I have always had a closet love affair with dragons. My mom was telling me the day I got Draiga that when I was very young I would give verbal speeches about bearded dragons at my school where we would do exotic animal sharing days, almost like a field trip. To my surprise I do not remember this, though it would explain why I feel "complete" for lack of a better word now that I've got my own.
Anyways, now onto the spoiled dragon Draiga. Draiga is what I would assume to be a hypo as she is a pastel color and a sub adult. She has been in shed since the day I got her (about 10 days ago) so as to what her real color will be, I have no clue. It will be a very pleasant surprise as I already think she is pretty glorious. On top of the fact she's quite beautiful, she is incredibly sweet as well. She is such a cuddle bug! Whoever said that reptiles can't feel/show love has never had a dragon before.. Lol! Whoever said that they're not a serious investment also has never had a dragon.. I'm already out way over half a thousand dollars (shh!! lol) and I've only had her 10 days! Like I said, spoiled. I feed her dubias and phoenix worms which she is allowed to eat her fill - along with collard greens, turnip greens and squash which she really loves. I even hand sewed her a hammock, a bed, a blanket and a pillow.. Did I mention that the bed is like a giant pillow, the blanket is also fluffy and insulated and then the pillow is fluffy too. I picked the softest material I could find for one side of each of her "furniture" so she is always on softness.
Oh and I am paying at least $400 for a 4x2x2 custom enclosure complete with matching stand. All custom - one of a kind. Which should be done tomorrow *fingers crossed!*. (Oh if someone could please tell me what kind of lighting to look into for it? I have a framed screen top so the lights will sit on the outside of the enclosure and the enclosure is made out of black melamine if that makes a difference.)
Here's the little princess and her temporary home:
There we go for the introduction. Sorry for the blabbing.. I'm just so excited to be a beardie slave! Haha! Expensive and time consuming but totally worth it.. and maybe not as expensive and time consuming if you're not obsessed like I am? I also didn't want to take the cheap route on anything, I wanted to give her a chance to make everything her own, otherwise I probably could have saved a lot.
