I reviewed my top statement on the last post slightly.

I'd have to see if I can speak to some avian biochemist specialists in the future, but I will bear it in mind. If it's truly unchartered territory, I'm not sure where I could properly go as I don't have access to laboratory equipment. Or birds for that matter. See again previous post. What sort of fruits do they eat? Birds are a bit scary. Not scary scary, but I wouldn't keep one. Same way I wouldn't keep a scorpion. I'm sure they're lovely pets, and I like looking at them, but I'm still not gonna put my hand in there thanks. Tarantula, no problem! :D

At least I can guess what my dragons are thinking. Still no luck with Kyle, she's stormed off in a temper to bed.

Mine and ive got 7 at any one time in rescue and 2 that are my actual pet's.

They eat:
Bannana,
Apples (moderation)
Grapes (green or dark)
Rocket (moderation)
celery

Ill drag the safe food list of the other forum, but basically they can eat just about anything other than, Chocolate, avocado, caffeen product's (even tho alot of owners let their parrots drink coffee or tea) I avoid anything processed really :)

They are extremely sensetive, one of the major toxin's in the home is tefal and air spray's and all that sort of thing.

Getting back to Dragon's, ive been sniffing Jodie today and she smells like a sweet smell really, can not put my finger on it. I did have an idea tho, im sure with some questions and research you can find something which is good for their skin, and create a soap that not only smell's good, but benefit's their skin.

I know all these idea's thrown at you at once, but hey you started something special in the imagenation :)

Thanks, that's good to be going with when I come back to look at Aviary products specifically. I did hear about pan coatings, that's why you're not supposed to keep them in the kitchen, isn't it! My nan used to...

Hehe - I ASKED for all the ideas, it's good that people clearly would like something like this. Isn't it wonderful when you realise? :blob8:

As to skin benefits - that's exactly why I went for saponified olive. It's veeeery hydrating and will help keep the scales in top condition. I'm also considering developing some special scale scrubs for shedding or itchy dragons. Using - all together now! Only natural ingredients! Hurrah! It would be great for their humans as well, as it would have exfoliating and moisturising qualities - but again, that's an idea for the future, I need to focus on the soap first.

On another positive note, I've emailed a qualified cosmetics chemist with my first ingredients list to see if he can give me any feedback and possible future certification. I've also got info about assessments for certification as a soap maker if I do it myself in the future and how to join the Guild of Soapmakers. (I'm big on certificates)

Noai has been back, she says the raspberry WON'T dye our dragons pink, and she can produce however much we need if it all goes properly! She also came up with a name - "Soapy Dragons". She's having a look what the labels will look like with it.

I'd buy it (for myself even!) especially if you had a strawberry <3

I had an idea for a name, not sure if you would want it...

Hoard - Treat your dragons like the Royalty they are

Or something along those lines... Would be great if you could shape the soap like coins. Like a mythical dragon's hoard? I dunno :p

I can't wait!

*chuckles* Hmm, might have to think about that one. Strawberry is a popular request as well, and it is definitely on my list :) Little strawberry flavour, or fat strawberry?

Noai says she's getting bigger boxes made for shipping soaps, and a nice fellow called Scott with an entire alphabet after his last name says we won't need a cosmetics license for making soapy dragons, as it only really applies to human standard cosmetics. I did remind him humans will be using them too and I've run some further details past him, however as our ingredients are in common use, it should be fine. Noai's also looking at procuring a full soapmaker's certificate through one of my contacts at discount. We can then enter the Guild of Soapmakers!

The quality and purity is really what's going to count in these soaps, it's being kept so deliciously simple.

Wow things really are moving along! I think i speak for many when i say we cant wait!! I also suffer with very sensitive skin (allergys :( ) so i would love to be able to use it aswell, most of the 'for sensitive skin' soaps dont smell of anything! i would love to smell like wax worms lol!

Depends what you're allergic to, just be careful. They will have an ingredients list on, and it's based on stuff you normally find in your kitchen cupboards :) As with any soaps, test on a small patch first, and consult a dermatologist if you're not sure.

(How does that sound for a disclaimer?)

Sensitive skin soaps smell yick! By the way Buggsy, if you want any, I have a few bottles of "Simple" shampoo I can sell on to you - I know it's quite hard to find now and I've got 4 or so left. I've found that I'm alright with Lemon Head and Shoulders, so I don't use Simple any more.

Waxworm flavour is proving a difficult one - it's not easy finding a combination that will make a sawdust like smell that's safe. I'm looking along sandalwood lines at the moment, to see if that works.

Winfieldblue - Raspberry vanilla has had the thumbs up from my manufacturer, we're going to test out the basil and lemon once it's been made, and then we can move onto different scents if that one's viable. :) Be aware though, post from the UK to Oz takes a loooooong time.

Heads up to everyone too - the UK is having yet MORE postal strikes. Mind you, they should have cleared up when we've finished the first batch.

OoOoO i want in! Soo why not some sort of leafy smell... I like the smell of mustard greens and my youngest loves it as well... I think that some nice veggie smells could be interesting... Lemon grass could produce an interesting smell... mmm lemon grass and ginger... I don't know whats in my perfume but Crash sure seems to like it... ill have to look and see whats in it...

How are you testing Kyle for smells? I would love to give it a go with my three(well two as one is down)

HUuuummm... the possibilities....

Hello Kate!

I'm not "testing" Kyle as such, rather, asking her opinion on various things. I hold out a container of the desired substance for her to smell, and judge her response. That way she has every opportunity to walk away if she's had enough. I don't believe in actual animal testing.

Veggie smells - that could be unusual. As you know, we've already got the basil underway, and potentially a pumpkin, but it would be worth looking at.

UPDATE:
*phew* I've spent hours wading through legislation, and I think I may have made sense of it. I've sent a chunk of info to Noai to look over, and I've also sent a request to the chartered chemist. To my understanding (and feedback from professional soap companies) it's illegal to sell cosmetic products for humans without certification. For ANIMALS, it's very different. However, as I'd like my soap to be available to the people too, I want to do everything properly. I've asked for an assessment quote, the rest goes from here.

How exciting. Mind you, I can see why no-one's done this before. Eesh, it's a LOT of hard work!
'DKs.

Ah, that's fair enough chick! :) Tell me about it, postal strikes raise havoc with my real job too.

My OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder) means I see nearly everything as black and white (not literally, metaphorically) and like to make sure everything ... works and is RIGHT. I need to fully understand before I do something, which is why this project is a bit of an earthshaker for me - I'm letting it pull me along, but that's proving quite beneficial to my nature! :D As long as I'm doing this, I know I'm safeguarding myself from a legal viewpoint. It's also helping my manufacturer, because she'll get proper certification and EU regulations protection. In the long run, she and I are helping each other. :)

It also means taking it forward as a proper business is going to be a lot safer and easier in the future. I really want to do this thing, but I'm sooo not a risk taker. I'm not sure if there's a true living to be made in soap after all, so I'm not exactly going to quit my job when I can work it in my spare time.

Talking of which, I'm running late for distributing flyers for another project. Oops!

See you later and back soon!

I'd definatly try some, my sister has sensitive skin and can't use certain things so it'll be great to test. I'm from the UK too :)!

Welcome Croc! My lovely CCC (chartered cosmetics chemist) has given me a discounted quote of £130 for the first one, I'll be sure to ask him to check it for sensitive use.

He was quite amused that it's for Beardies and states that he doesn't have any experience with cosmetics for reptiles and asked "What sort of skin texture do they have?" Hehehe! We've discussed it at length and the general consensus is that passing certification and only using dragon friendly materials (which is the fiddly bit that I've been doing the research into), it should be fine. I'm STILL going to issue a disclaimer of use though, just in case.

We're also discussing potential effects of actually EATING the soap for humans, as dragons wouldn't be eating large lumps of it under normal conditions anyway. As I had surmised, there would be a "possibly strange toilet time" and likely gastric irritation with eating large amounts. It's an ongoing discussion though.

"By the way, you are now officially my client with the strangest emails"

Hurray!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
