Dragon cuddles

Weird question here. I keep seeing all these pictures of Beardies cuddling with their pets all over. My baby lets me hold him for a few min and then gets curious of other stuff and starts trying to go on an adventure. He does get to run around on the floor daily. In a pin since he runs around so much and there is to many small places for him to hide in.

Is this how all dragons are and the pics I see are luck? I'm guessing this is because he is only 2-3 months old. Do they just get lazy when they get older?

That sounds like pretty normal behavior. Curiosity is healthy, and it's good that you've made a safe place for him to run around in.

Most of them do slow down at least a bit when they get older, but each one is an individual and they're all different. Some are just more into snuggling up with a warm mammalian body than others. Yours is still pretty young, and there's still plenty of time for him to learn to enjoy cuddling.

You might try cuddling up with him in the evening at the time when you normally turn off the lights and when he's sleepy; then he'll be more likely to settle down and want to cuddle for a while. But I believe it's best to put him down in a safe place if he gets wiggly and wants to run around, so that he doesn't learn that being held is some kind of a trap, and so that it will eventually and hopefully be a pleasant experience for both of you. :love5:

It took my little guy a good few months before he was happy to just relax on me, and even now it's either at night or after he's had plenty of time to run around the room.

He will also only do it on his terms, it's as if he finds the most uncomfortable position for me possible and won't move from that spot lol

It's definitely obvious who owns who in that photo. :wink: Just don't forget that it's the human slave's responsibility to make sure that the dragon doesn't fall off and get hurt.

With little ones because they are so skittish & wanting to explore everything/everywhere you'll have better snuggle luck just before or right at lights out when they are entering sleep mode. Try wrapping your little one up in a hand towel or small blanket like a burrito & start out snuggling him or her that way.

Then when your done, you can keep little beardie in their burrito when you return it to the tank. You can just barely see my beardie's nose peeking out of her blankie.

That's what I often do with our beardie at bedtime. If I'm really REEAALLY careful, sometimes I can put him back in his terrarium ("burrito" and all) without waking him all the way back up again, and sometimes not, but even if not he usually stays in the burrito and goes back to sleep fairly quickly once all the lights are out. :sleepy2:
