Hello All,
Sorry I have been making so many threads I am trying to figure things out. My question is I have a double fixture with a repti sun and a regular bulb I was wondering if the UV rays might being dissapated too much? It is 16 inches from the floor of the viv so I was wondering if not enough rays are makign it to him because of the white light right next to it?

The UVB output is unaffected by the presence light in another area of the spectrum, both exist independently. As long as you're running an unobstructed ReptiSun 10.0 and your BD can get within about 8" of it, you're set for UVB.

Thank you very much for the info. I measured the rock she sits on sometimes to the bulb is a foot so I will have to work on making it closer. She actually doesnt sit on it much so that means she is even further

if i may join in as i had a similar question:
why not run both bulbs as ReptiSun 10.0s? Is it better to have as much as possible? or is there such thing as too much?
Also, if the lights are too far from the BD, does it know to climb up and get closer till it gets its required amount? or do the lights really have to be low enough to be sure the BD is exposed almost constantly?

There is such thing as too much UVB, and that can cause health, particularly eye problems.

Plus, it would be pretty dang expensive to run two!

They will get closer to the basking light if they need to, but not necessarily the UVB, so it needs to be situated so they can get within 6-8" of it when they are on their favorite basking spot.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
