Doesn't like the hot spot

Hi guys, so while at the vet a couple months ago, i mentioned that the basking spot temp was about100 degrees, and she suggested I raise it to 105-110.
The commissioner's tank is now on a gradient of (about) 107, to 95, to 85, to 78.
The thing is, ever since I raised his temps, he never goes into his hot spot, he likes to sit in 85 zone when he first wakes up, and about mid day moves till he's about 95-98 degrees and will gape in this spot if he's been there a while.
I've been monitoring this pretty closely when I started to notices that he wasn't in his basking spot, and he has been pretty consistent. What do you guys think, is he just a little more sensitive?
he is 8 years old.
Also, I have a temp guy and a probe both taking the same readings.

Did he used to sit on his basking spot before you raised the temps? Has the change affected his appetite and/or digestion?

yup he used to sit there, His appetite poops and everything are normal, I'm just wondering if the higher temp is really necessary for him, cause now he's not using a section of his viv at all

I tend to agree with you, given that he used to like the spot when it was cooler. But I'm very new to this, and know very little.

Honestly, I think the best thing you can do is give your vet a call to say you're considering lowering the basking spot temps back to where they were, since the warmest spot he'll tolerate now is 2 degrees lower than it was before. In my experience, vets are helpful and responsive to phone calls with questions regarding appropriate care.

Poor guy...he is 8 yrs old...put his basking temp back where you had it!! He didnt have any undigested food in his poop did he?? Did he have an RI? Exactly what was he at the vet for?? Unless there was a medical reason the vet wanted his temp raised,,,just put it back.

105-110 is mostly for juvi's. Adults tend to prefer around 95-100.

YMMV of course as every dragon is a bit different, but in general
adults prefer it slightly cooler than little ones do.

The vet visit was just an overall health exam and fecal.
if he eats butter worms they can sometimes come out undigested, but crickets, silkworms, and veggies are all digested fine.
The vet visit was a full success, she said he was in awesome condition for his age, and fecal was just fine.
I have lowered the temp, I'm sure the vet was just going by the book, but each beardie is unique. Thanks for all the input everyone.

Glad you little guy is doing good...is he happier now that you lowered the temps back down??
