Toothless loves having his beard and back stroked, as well as the top of his head. He hates me touching the area where his back leg and his tail intersect

My boy koda actually likes to be stroked on the tail. He falls asleep as soon as I do it. Weird!

Me, too. I pet mine from their heads down to the tip of their tail. They either smile or close their eyes and do the "ahhhhhh" thing. But aren't people like that, too? Some people love to have their hair played with and others are like, "Touch my hair and you are toast!"
