Do you let your dragon roam around your floor?

I've done this a couple times for my dragon. Just let him out and set him on the floor to roam as a baby, but he went insane that i was so hesitant ever since. A couple weeks ago I went ahead and did it again and he was much more calm, but I still am wondering if others do this?

Like do you just let him go and go do something else during? I'm afraid he'll get under a couch and it'll take forever to find him. I have no holes so he can't escape (I'm in an apartment). Just not too sure if I can leave him and then go to another room for a little

Is this even beneficial? To let them stretch their legs and all haha

i recommend putting a leash on him if you're going to let him roam around. Otherwise just get a part of your floor beardie proofed so he can't escape and let him roam around in there.

Since my rabbit lives in my room, everything is pet-proof so I let Dudley roam all the time. I supervise him in other parts of the house, but it's nice to not have to worry about him while he is running around in my room. He has certain places he likes to hide, so I know where to find him if he disappears LOL!

We've had Levi for a little over a year and a half now (shortly after she was born) and she has always spent some time out. For a long time I would just have her out if I was sitting in the floor reading the paper or something where I could keep close watch over her. Now that she is older and is used to the routine, she is often a free beardie and its just normal for her to be out with the family. I have her tank set up the recommended reptisun bulb but also have a small setup with a mvb in the living room where she chooses to hang out a lot. She does occasionally wander off for a nap but she has her favorite spots and I have two boys who don't mind helping look under the couch for her. I think the biggest risk is that they will never outgrow randomly trying to eat things that they find--especially if they are the same color as or resemble their food.

In my room, I let the lizards Roam freely. My room is beardie proof just like Jess's so I don't really need to find them. And it is true, they all have their own little places they like to hide so when its time to go back in the tanks, I know where each one is.

I let them out separately btw, not all out at once.

ok figured. Just was wondering in case it was specific things like plug the outlets up or something. How long do you all usually keep them out for, and have they ever pooped on your floor? That would be bad ha

@Jess - Other words baby proofed. As they are so much alike. Won't eat their greens, get into every thing, and yes, make us a slave to their every need...oh and they leave us nice presents for us to clean up.

One of these weekends off I have to so through I clean up a designated area for little Dovah. I want to allow him to roam freely, but we have a roach scare in our condos from a nasty lady that moved out (actually found two in our unit half dead) but I had over sprayed a lot of residual chemical spray, as well as borax power at entry points closest to that unit. Never seen them since.. Their unit has been cleaned out and now my old neighbor took it over, and she is very clean. But never-the-less, I want to clean it all up and allow him to roam downstairs as much as possible, right now I have to watch closely so he doesn't reach the edges of the room.

Point I wanted to bring up about mentioning my story on that. If you let your Beardie out to roam, assure you don't anything you wouldn't want them to ingest. Mine, as well as everyone's Beardie, loves to taste smell everything they walk by/stop at. I would/do shutter at the thought of my little Dovah ingesting a chemical that would make him very ill, or do permanent damage of some type.

I let Izzy roam around. Was only letting him run around my living room for a while. I have a radiator that goes along one wall and was scared he'd get into gaps or the hole under it so that got taped off with masking tape holding a window screen in place blocking access to him. The little bugger always runs towards it and stuffs his nose against the screen when he's tired. I block the kitchen off with a masonite board and the entrance way with a big mirror. That way he can explore all he wants but can't get out of the beardieproofed living room.

Now that he's bigger I let him run around my bedroom too. So far he's been good and just roams around on my bed or runs into the walk in closet or living room. He's taken poops on the floor, but it's hardwood so cleaning isn't as big of an issue as cleaning the couch would be.

I'm always sitting or crawling on the floor nearby or beside him so I don't worry too much. Always have my eye on him just in case.

What does pet proof really mean?

some part of your house is escape proof. Like he can't climb or jump out of where he's at, but can roam around happily

I also let my Tomek roam around the house. I have three beardies and I let them all out, although, I feel like I am running a daycare for beardies sometimes. THey all have their personalities, but, now that it is sunny and warm here, they all run to the screen door because they want out and generally will hide there. Sometimes, I have lost mine (which is bad) and it took me 2 days to find one of them. I do have a leash for mine if I put them outside, but generally just try to watch them inside.

I agree with Jess it would probobly be alot easier to beardie proof your room. I have a bunny as well so my room is also bun bun (my bunny) proof and he gets into EVERYTHING. Here's a good website to give you some ideas on room proofing.

I wouldn't suggest using those wire storage shelving for beardie's though your probably better off using plywood. I have plywood lining the open spaces around my dresser and my bed.

I use those NIC shelf panels for bunny proofing too, but they have they don't have much effect on beardies... Dudley LOVES to climb up them and leap into the sectioned off areas.

I read somewhere that it is really bad for bearded dragons to walk around on a carpet cause the carpet fibers will wrap around their toes and cause them to fall off. Maybe that is just a myth though, if anyone else has heard of this please post. this seems like an appropriate thread to bring up this topic.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
