Do superworms need to burrow?

I got a bunch of superworms and had read in several breeding how-to's that you can use whole oats for substrate.

The previous batch I'd ordered I put in oats and they seemed fine.

Before I got the new batch, I read that you're supposed to blend the oats to make it easier in the worms. I've had this new batch for a couple of days on the blended oats and they all seem to like hanging out on top. I tried burying a few and they dig up to the top again.

I do have some raw baby carrots in for moisture but the worms on top aren't just hanging out by the carrot chunks. Does anyone know why? What am I doing wrong?

They may want the moisture from the carrots. Oats or bran or a mix is fine for substrate. How deep do you have it? I'd set it at around an inch or two deep so they have plenty of space.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
