I was wondering today about thermometer needs because I have a 40gal breeder tank that I just bought and I am not sure if whether to get just one zilla digital thermometer because the cord reaches pretty far or should I get two individual thermometer's? I personally think that the cable looks REALLY WIERD AND OUT OF PLACE since I do have red sand and its just sticking out... does anyone recommend anything? should I get two thermometers or just get one? I currently have one zilla digital and a hygrometer since I have my beardie in a 10gal for the meantime.

any answers are VERY appreciated, Thank you
Bradley

That depends on the thermometer you get. Yes you need readings of your basking temp and your cool side temp. I have two thermometers but thats because I went to Petsmart and bought two with the probes. What a lot of people on here use is the Accurite from wal-mart for like $12. Place the probe on the basking spot and the device on the cool end, the "outdoor" reading is your basking temp and the "indoor" reading is your cool temp and it tells you humidity. If you don't want probes then you can get a temp gun. Home depot and Lowe's sells them and you can find them online for pretty good prices.

I have one probe at the cool end and a temp gun for the basking spot. I just wanted to point out that any sand can be a serious danger to beardies and is never recommended. The red sand will just be dyeing the skin also. I would look into changing this, but its just a bit of advice, i know not what you asked for!

Thank you Buggsy!

I am a new beardie owner since 2-3 months and I had gone to a pet store called beverly's which I was referred to by the breeder and they were pretty useful, other than the part which they said that sand was the best substrate. I am dwelling on what to pu in the 40 gallon breeder... I want to put tile in it but I think it's gonna be expensive for the tile! I would love to get slate tile but my girlfriend doesn't really like it. I know I am changing the subject but I wanted to ask if I got reptile carpet wouldn't it get stinky after some time and need to be changed after a while? or is there an alternate to this?

well i only paid £8 for my tiles, and i have spare if anything happens to the one i have. They are very easy to clean and imported italian slate lol! so just look into it, if you shop around many places let you buy individual tiles and you dont have to fork out for the whole box! But any ceramic tile with a good texture to it will work.

People who use reptile carpet usually have two to rotate, they can be put in the washer, so while ones dirt they other can be used. When gizmo was a baby i also bought a roll of thick wallpaper (no with adhesive already on it) and cut it up into tank sized sections. That way when she pooped i just threw it out and got a clean one, worked out about £5 a month!

I use reptile carpet in my cage and thats what I do, I have 2 that I just rotate out. Granted I have to do it often because the poop doesn't just scoop cleanly off like may be tile or slate would. I'm thinking about switching. But I just wash the carpet in the cloths washer on hot water with a little bit of bleach mixed into it that way I know it's clean.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
