DJ's new mom ...

Hello ... This is my very first post. Though I have been reading posts for the last week or so. I just got my first beardie two weeks ago this past Thursday. Her name is DJ, at least I think she is a female. She is about 4 months old. I got her for my son, he is 13 years old, and we agreed she is half mine and half his, but the whole family is falling in love with her. She has finally settled in and this morning she ate the most she has since she has been with us. She had approx. 10 crickets. I read on here that beardies are addictive and I totally agree. I can't wait to get home to see her. And the first day I was away from her for a full work day ... I almost freaked. I couldn't wait until my husband got home to tell me how she was. Anyway, I have been reading alot on here and have found this forum to be very helpful. Here are some pictures of my little angle ...

The person I got her from had a 2 beardies and didn't even know he had a female and a male until the female laid her eggs. So he had no clue what kind of beardie she is, when I asked. He said she was an Australian Beaded Dragon ... But I have done alot of research and I know there are many different kinds. I am hoping to that she shows some color, there is a little patch of orange on the both of her sides on her head. But she is absolutely beautiful as she is. I can't wait until I can afford the supplies to make her permanent bigger home. I have plans for a 4 foot long 2 foot wide and approx. 2 foot high. I hope this will be big enough for her, if not I can always adjust the plans.

Right now she is doing great. And I think she is about ready to shed soon, as she had a little flake of skin and yesterday she freaked me out with the eye bulging thing. And after doing some research ... they say she could be stretching the skin around the eyes for a shed. I know this is long, but it is my first post and I am excited.

Thanks ... She is getting more active and loves being out of her viv. She isn't hiding as much and as checking out every corner of her viv, and licking everything she comes into contact with.

Yeah - I got her in a 20 gallon long right now. But my father-in-law is into building and making things, and has an entire wood shop in his garage, so DJ is going to have the best viv in town. My husband works for Office Max and I have started a collection of foam for making new furniture and things to climb on. My son and I are going to work on this together - he is just itching to make stuff for her. DJ is just a little over 9 inches long tip to tip.

I have just gotten addicted to getting stuff for her. She hasn't quite fallen in love with the hammock but I am sure in time she will. She stays there for awhile when I place her there. I wanted her to have things to climb on and do while we were at work and/or school. She has actually tried jumping into the background a few times. It is quite funny.

Thanks for the welcome ... DJ's appetite has really picked up ... this morning she ate 16 crickets and this afternoon when I got home (after I replenished her supply) she ate another 10 or so ... That's the most she has eaten in one day. And the whole family loves watching her eat her crickets ... People I work with ... think I am crazy. But they just don't understand how adorable she is.

It freaks out my boss and one of my co-workers when I talk about her eating crickets ... and that my kids loving watching her eat. My 8 yr old gets a real kick out of it ... but she still won't hold her. Whereas my son loves holding her.

I am getting a little worried ... she hasn't had a bowel movement in a couple of days. I am going to giver her another bath tomorrow morning ... hopefully she will have one in the bath.

A bath is a good idea if you are worried about her not passing regurally. Currently I am giving my beardie,Ned, two bathes a day, but thats because he is shedding. Your DJ is adorable but of course i say that about practically all beardies, I am totally obbsessed. Again like you I love watching Ned eat. He is a pretty good hunter when he goes for the crickets but I love watching him eat strawberry. He gets a rim of red juice around his mouth and it looks like he is wearing lipstick. It cracks me up . Good luck with DJ, she sounds great, and welcome aboard!
