Thought I'd share this. Keeping water in dubia/cricket bins is an everyday task. Now it's once every week or so. All you need is mayo jars or whichever, drill bit, hot glue gun. I tried different size holes, 1/4 inch or more works well. Drill a few holes as close to the lip as possible with the cap on. You will need a larger cover, and on that has a higher lip for the bottom to prevent the water from pouring out all at once.
Need more details PM me. I'd be happy to provide

2 problems...

roaches or crickets can't climb smooth plastic

standing water gives them a place to drown hence why similar waterers use a foam donut to prevent this.

Solution:1. Sandpaper
2. Water crystals or gauze pads cut to size.
I've been using these for years an never had a critter drown.

Great design Hammerhead. One question, is it stable? I tried this once (different design, same premise) for some crickets I used to keep and the stupid thing tipped over and spilled all the water out in the middle of night. What a mess that was. If its stable, I might make one of these for my roach bin.

Thanks,
Chris

It's stable, never had one tip. I have about 6 of them now, easier to rotate them than take them out to fill. The smaller one in the pic with the sisel rope around it I used a rectangular lid. I think it came from a rasin container. Large mayo jars with a larger lid for the bottom work just fine. Just remember to sand the sides so the babies can climb up.The lip on the bottom lid can't be any lower than the hole you drilled, or it just runs out. Also, after you drill the whole through the lid and jar, make marks with a jumbo marker on the jar and lid as a reference to match up. I found that a few jars won't line up if the threads start in a different spot. The waterers that work best have 2-3 separate holes drilled around it.

I have a 4L jar that used to have jalapeno peppers in it laying around. I'll have to try this with that sometime. I'll likely have to make something to make it more stable though...

These waterers are very stable. Lids are screwed on and there is no way insects can tip them over. The only problem I see about larger ones is room reqiured for it to fit in the container. A quart sized mayo jar will easily last 2 weeks before needing refilled. Hey Polardragon, now I can taste jalepano peppers after reading that.

Well accidents happen, like tubs getting bumped, but I'm pretty darn sure the crix won't be able to take that thing down  I'm sure if I got a big enough bottom 'dish' I'd be fine setting it in the corner of a rubber maid container with no worries.

Weird that you tasted the jalapenos though

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
