has anyone used an ikea table as a beginning and then
added the back and sides(maybe using "L" brackets as
support for the structure?
seems like it would be easy enough, a 4x4 sheet of plywood
would prolly be enough material, then a screen top and glass
front...

If so, they are around $40-50 right?

You can just build a whole 4x2x2 for around that much, or less, assuming you have the tools required.

usually diy means destroy it yourself for me.
so i was thinking this would give me a solid base
and reduce cutting

It could if that's the way you want to go.

It won't be too much harder to just make it from scratch either though. The 4x2x2 crossfire vivs are pretty simple to make. Especially if you are working with someone (or are someone) who has done woodwork before.
