Disinfectant Questions

Hi guys!

Sorry, not sure if I should've posted it here or in Enclosures!
I'm wondering what disinfectant can I use to spray on the area were my beardie has pooped, and use it when doing a total cage clean out, that isn't expensive, home-made would be good, and not dangerous to him?

And off topic, but, I was given 3 globes by a friend (their beardie died ), 1 white globe and 2 infra-red globes. Now I know that the infra-red globes can disrupt their sleeping patterns, so shouldn't be used at night, but will they be okay as basking lights? It would help save some money if I can use that, since I'm not old enough to work yet, so I have to use pocket money. AND does anyone know of any shelters that have bearded dragon up for adoption in Melbourne, Google searches haven't given me much info :|

Hi there... You can use the white bulbs, but red is unnatural for beardies. I suppose if you had a very large enclosure that needed lots of heat you could use it alongside one of the white, but definitely not by itself. It creates a dull, gloomy look for a lizard that requires a bright environment.

As for a safe , home made cleaner you can use red wine vinegar which is cheap + can be found in most grocery stores. It is actually 100X stronger than bleach and has been used in 3rd world countries as a powerful disinfectant. Just dilute it with water about 1/10 and use it freely, then wipe up with a clean wet paper or other towel .
