We have moved Draco to his new house (lol) and I spent days tweaking the dimmer so the basking spot was sitting around 108-112 fluctuation with doors opening etc.. and the cool end hanging around 79-84 approx which I was happy with overall. He has a few levels too, to get a good gradient. I thought 'wow' these dimmers are ace! Door opens and the dimmer compensates, room temp goes up (lots of people or w/e) and dimmer compensates.
Problem: Today has been pretty warm, warmer than the few days I was 'testing' his new home/dimmer/temps etc... No problem I thought, the dimmer will compensate.. which it has... by turning the heat down to maintain the cool end warm end gradient. Problem is, this drops the temp of his basking spot to (when I put the probe in tonight as I do as often as possible) 90f
Now we've spent the last hour or so tweaking the dimmer again and pulling our hair out. I wondered why he was looking very slightly darker today (he's normally sooo white underneath).
I'm thinking now, that dimmers are no good for basking? Only for ambient temps?
We've turned it up and moved the probe to see if that helps and are now crossing fingers. So much for my full proof (not cheap either) dimmer idea to keep our baby perfect and happy!
