Digging in laybox got substrate around/in eyelid!!

Hey guys my Amber is still not ready to drop her eggs she will dig in her laybox for awhile then want out of her enclosure. I am using a reptisoil with natural Australian desert sand and she has had no problem laying her 1st 2nd and 3rd clutch this year in it.

I came home and she had a piece of substrate in her eye/eyelid so I ran water over her head to stimulate drinking and I gently wiped her eye. Should I worry about the substrate in her eye/eyelid or should I just let her do her thing? She didn't seem bothered though she does close that particular eye a bit more than the other

They will get substrate all over like that, it's generally not a problem. What you did for her was fine too.

Never seen it in the eye before but nonetheless she had her clutch and ended up staying and guarding them for a 45 mins so I let her come out before I pulled the laybox

Yup took her 4 days of nesting both in and out of her enclosure but she did it

Is it just crusty around the eyelid ? If there's anything in her eye you can gently flush it with room temp. sterile saline [ not the one for contact lenses ] You can also use some raw unpasteurized honey, such as from a beekeeper , and mix 1 part with 3parts lukewarm water to apply on both the eye + the eyelid.

I woke up today and her eyes look much better I think she did some scratching and rubbing to get the shed off as you can see she has some shed on her lip too

Today I saw the same with Rocky. I got a wash cloth and started dabbing (you know how I am so cut it out), LOL. I attempted this after a soft blow. Well I thought it was but he totally closed his eye on me LOL

I thought he got his digbox sand/dirt in his eye? Rocky literally sits in it for 2 seconds a day. I then realized it was shed. Well, again, I know Rocky will let me blow and dab- do anything to him. His tail was my trumpet the other week!

She does that a lot I'm glad she helped me get the dirt/soil out of her eyelid lol she knew I was trying to help
