Digging box? [+ other questions]

I realized that Tiberius misses his sand very badly, he'll randomly try to dig though the paper towels covering his enclosure and seems very sad when I stop him from shredding the paper.
Does anyone have an idea for a dig box that I could give him? I can't use any substrate with grain, since I had a bad case of grain mites with my super worms and my mother has forbidden any kind of food in my bedroom xD;

Also, I'm making my summer project to make Tiberius a new cage that's longer for him to have more room to run around in :3
Anyone know a good size cage I should start with? What wood to avoid? How should I treat the wood so it doesn't rot or anything?
I'm putting down tile and sealing it for the floor of the cage. Tile seems a little more cost-friendly in the long term than paper towels. Going green! lol.

So what I did was because my female loves to dig and I have tile is I got a cereal box cut down the edges so that my female could climb in then I just bought some playground sand (clean and washed) put some in it and her hid. She just loves it and digs has fun even sleeps there when she gets hot lol.

Then every month I dump out the sand make a new cereal box and put new playground sand in so your always recycling and throwing the old playground sand in the garden and the paper cereal box in the recycling bin.

It works for me and I have had no problems and she is happy with it

As far as enclosures go check out the DIY and Enclosures forums, there is always lots of good info there. Most of us who have custom enclosures use this or something very similar

i use a washing up bowl and half fill it that way they can dig as much as they want and it doesnt go everywhere, you can tip it out and clean it when ever you want
