Dig box Question

Just want to keep this simple and to the point, since I need to get going to work very soon xD

So, Atticus loved to glass dance. He's weird, I love him, but recently I've noticed that he tries to dig up his carpet, although he doesn't do a good job xD So, it dawned on me that maybe he needs a dig box, a pleasant little place for him to express his digging needs.

But then, I'm a very overprotective mama. I cringe at loose substrates out of fear, so I ask for suggestions (even if loose works fine, some comfort would be nice on that. Alternatives would be better)

So my question is, what should I use in my dig box?

Hi, Glitch :)

I've been thinking the same thing. I contemplated using fine grade play sand and asking what others thought if I JUST put it in a dig box, but then found that there is also risk of their eyes being harmded by this - plus he does stick out his tongue to investigate so there is still a possiblity of impaction.

I've heard some here say that alfalfa pellets were safe - and it's suggested putting them in a dig box. The most important thing, as I understand it, is that it not be allowed to get moist in any way (as it gets moldy very easily).

I've been thinking about this, as out beardie does like to dig a little and wiggle down (SO cute!!!) :) So, I'm contemplating strips of fabric in a dig box. Not pieces small enough to be eaten, of course. I got the idea when he was roaming about in the great outdoors inside out home :) and he settled down on a fuzzy throw rug and began to dig into it. I'm planning on putting that together tomorrow, or at some point this week :)

I may have to try fabric, since I can't seem to find any place around here that sells alfalfa pellets, and I really don't want to risk his health with any sort of sand.

I may run to Petsmart and see if they have any pellets.

Let your fingers do the walking, first, Glitch :) (that's what I'm doing ATM, and why I'm on the computer ATM. LOL). I just checked their website and they list Oxbow's Pellets. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3135798 call the store and ask what Alfalfa pellets they have, if any.

I saw one website mentioned "rabbit" pellets. Some rabbit pellets are made with Timothy, not alfalfa (same for guinea pigs), and I don't know if that is safe for bearded dragons. So, you might want to double check the ingredients to be sure your getting the alfalfa.

As an aside note, for our Guinea Pigs, we chose Oxbow for just about everything, KayTee is another good brand.

If you get them, please post his reaction :)

My guy loved to dig at the linoleum so i went out and got a dig box. I used to use dried dandelion leaves i happened to have within a cat litter tray. They sell dried dandelion leaves for small furrys and i used them because they looked natural, had little dust and if he ate them then its just dandelion! They also smelled lovely. My guy started brumnating though and he wanted to dig down in the box to sleep, but i worried about the prolonged exposure to the dried leaves so i switched them out.

Right now i use paper towels that are torn up a little. I know they're safe since everyone uses them for hatchlings and he isn't attracted to eat them at all. It works well, because he can dig down and i know he isn't gonna beathe in loose particles and they're not too heavy so i know he isn't gonna suffocate if he falls asleep. They're cheap to replace and if my guy happens to poop i can see it easily and its much easier to clean. Here are so photos! :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
