My adult, 3.5 year old bearded dragon has had black stuff in his eye today and also had diarrhea.
I just got him from someone who had her and wasn't giving her the best living situations. It by all means above some of the atrocities I read about, but she had a coiled UVB bulb and was a bit skinny. Because of this, I have been letting her eat a lot to get her weight up, maybe even too much. I was just wondering if this is bad. I have probably given her about 30 crickets per day, and a few meal worms and wax worms.
Last night, when I was trying to give her water by placing drops on her nose, which I found she doesn't like, she tried to get it off with her foot and I am afraid she may have scraped her eye with her claw. I didn't see any contact, but now that she woke up with black stuff in her eye, I am afraid this may be the case. Her substrate is a mix of topsoil and play sand, so maybe a bit of that could have gotten in her eye.
Pictures of her eye: https://imgur.com/a/JGCraET - the first two are of her left eye, the one with the black stuff and the last is of her other, healthy eye for comparison.
Today, she also had diarrhea. I was thinking maybe because I fed her a lot recently to try and get her weight up it may have upset her stomach. I read that a change in diet can also cause this, so I think it is worth letting you guys know that she was supposedly fed crickets and some "gourmet" mix for them. She hasn't seemed stressed at all and actually seems to be enjoying her new home. I gave her a bath today to hopefully help with her eye, and a few hours after that is when she had her diarrhea. I just went to check on her, and she does have a few stress marks on her stomach.
