I work at PetSmart and at this same PetSmart I bought my baby 3 years ago. He is handsome, healthy, active and responsive. I brought him in today and my coworker mentioned to me the little “blep” he has is a deformity. But I’m not sure if it’s actually something to be concerned about. He can close his mouth all the way when he wants to but for the most oft he keeps it very slightly open. And I know I am not confusing it with gaping.

Attached is the image! Tell me what you think. Thanks guys!

Hello,

How long have you noticed the mouth/jaw doing that, not until your friend mentioned it?
It looks like a calcium issue, which is very common. Are you using a UVB light & calcium
supplementation for him?
Does he seem to have any trouble walking, climbing or chewing?

Hello I don’t use calcium actually, I was under the impression it was only for the first year. Oh boy. How embarrassing.

He has proper uvb and heat lamps, which I replace twice a year, he also gets direct vitamin d on walks at least once a week. I haven’t seen any issues with movement or climbing in fact he loves swimming and climbing.

How bad is this issue btw? Is he hurt or pain?

Hello,

Things happen, but even adults need calcium supplementation, too.
We recommend 2-3 times per week. Which type & brand of UVB are you using, how old is it?
Since thus far, he doesn't seem to have any mobility issues, hopefully it isn't too bad. They
grow into their second year so that is probably when it started slowly developing. The jaw is
usually one of the first areas you notice, too.
Is he eating pretty well?

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
