Yesterday I bought 15 supers for my beardie for the first time. It was late at night and it completely slipped my mind to look into the husbandry of superworms. Well, I gave them some oat substrate and I placed them in the fridge because I thought they would keep longer that way. Well obviously I'm wrong and now my superworms are dead. I don't want them to go to waste, so I was wondering if I could still feed them to my beardie if he will eat them. Any advice is appreciated!! thanks :)

I would not feed them to my dragons.

Superworms should not be placed into the refrigerator, as the cold temps kill them. You can just keep them in a Tupperware container with a piece of bread for them to hide under. I simply feed them the same gut-load diet that my roaches and crickets also get. They are kept at room temp (72* F) and they do excellent. I tend to lose none of my worms with this method, they actually malt regularly and grow before I feed them.

Something interesting happened.... After I discovered the dead superworms, I removed them from the fridge and I kept them out at room temp. To my surprise they came back to life! After a little warming up they were all wiggling again, so I figured it was okay to feed them to my dragon. He LOVED them. I might have made a mistake though. Yesterday I bought 200 crickets for him and as soon as he tasted the worms he didn't seem so interested in the crix anymore. I will have to bargain with him. He must finish his crickets before he gets any more worms

I read using oatmeal is okay for them as substrate? And regarding food, I was thinking about giving them scraps from my beardie's salad, like stalks etc. I feed my crickets apples mostly. Sometimes they will get salad bits, but I've never given them food I've bought specifically for cricket gut-loading.

Once my crickets are all used up, I think I'm going to re-use the bin and store some superworms in there :)

Wonder what the nutritional value on zombie superworms is.

Oatmeal should be fine. I use wheat bran, but oatmeal is easier to find. And supers love veggie leftovers like collards stalks and turnip green stems. Mine don't care for fruit, though, so I don't even offer it anymore.

Make sure you wash your bin and sterilize it (hot, hot water/soap) to kill any parasites that might have been in the crix. Rinse it really well to remove any residue.

Supers are easy to keep just toss them in some oatmeal i dont even grind it up stick whole carrots down in it change those ever 2 to 3 days. I never have any die. everytime you get a new shipment in clean the bin and add fresh oatmeal.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
