Dead-looking BD posted in LA craigslist. Lost cause?

I was surfing craigslist, and came across a terrible-looking picture of a BD for adoption in LA that looks so emaciated I can't tell if it's alive or not. Does anyone live close enough who would be willing to check it out, or do you think this is a lost cause? The owner wants $300 for the lizard+tank.

I know! It's terrible, isn't it? I can't believe the owner is even trying to sell this animal instead of surrendering it to a shelter. Makes you wonder... There's not much I could do about this, anyway, since the BD is in LA and I live in NY. I'm just at a loss of what can possibly be done now. Can we get animal control to get involved, or see if there's a reptile rescue in LA we could encourage the owner to surrender the animal to, or something???

oh my ive really really gotta stop looking at these kind of posts! this is soo sad, she looks in such a bad way, poor girlie! well would absolutely love to go get her however im across the big pond in the uk! *is thinking she will swim*

i second that sigh, just the thought of even letting my own babies get in that condition completely and utterly breaks my heart and i feel like crying. how on earth can some people live with themselves...

I hear ya. It's especially frustrating when you can't do anything about it. I emailed Emergency Animal Rescue in LA, but I don't think they'll do anything about a lizard. They mostly take care of horses stuck in flooding rivers or cats trapped in wells. I'm trying to figure out if there's anything else that can be done. I did email the owner today, and maybe, if I can get a response, we can possibly get him/her to surrender his BD to a rescue in the area... Does anyone know of any in particular?
