If at all possible, remove the mesh screen. The screen will break up the UV spectrum and thus not deliver the correct amount to your beardie, even at such close distance.

The closest distance that the UV should be from his basking spot is 8 inches away. Anything closer may be causing harm than good.

sadly I don't have any way of removing the mesh screen, there is no other way the uvb light would stay up. Hopefully the vet knows whats wrong because he seems to have lost his appetite/interest in basking, (though that could because he's outgrown his basking spot). Hopefully when he stops having bloody poos he'll get his appetite back. Leaving for vet in a few mins wish us luck

UPDATE: So just got back from vet. She said he looks healthy and is 306g and a healthy size/weight. She said she could feel a mass in his colon so if I keep bathing him a few times a day he should be able to pass it out, she said to probably stop feeding him freeze dried crickets. She also said the blood could have resulted from him eating spoiled food (a couple times he ate old greens that I was too lazy to clean out, I know i'm terrible! won't do that again). So I'll bathe him a few times today and hopefully he can pass it. She said if the blood recurs to bring him back to see if he has an injury of some sort. Last time he pooped it looked alot better and he wasn't straining so hopefully it keeps getting better.

If you want to give him some extra help in passing that impaction, you can mix up some applesauce and a bit of veggie oil and feed it to him. Paired with the warm bath, that should help him pass the blockage.

Hope he feels better soon!

Thanks I may try that. I gave him two half hour baths and he had a poop, but I think theres still more in there, so I'll continue the bathing. After he pooped he perked up and actually basked for a couple hours before I left, he wasn't basking when I got home but I think he'll keep getting better. There was a tiny pink spot in the urate but it still looks better then his poop yesterday

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
