Here's an update on Wallace's cut wrist. Took him to the vet this morning after some more waffling--thought the cut looked better, then it looked worse. The vet said, "it's not terrible," but was glad I'd brought him in. $200 later, I received a four-day supply of oral pain killer/anti-inflamatory, an antiseptic solution meant to be mixed with water in which the cut is soaked for five minutes twice daily for two weeks, a cream made from silver which goes on the cut after soaking, and ten days worth of oral antibiotics (I'm also going to start giving him probiotics to balance out his gut from the antibiotics). I'm supposed to leave his wrist unbandaged at night so the cut can breathe. The vet said reptiles take a looong time to heal surface wounds, up to six months. She also said the swelling, which was hardly noticeable to me, could have increased to the point of cutting off circulation to his fingers. I'm to watch his fingers closely for discoloration. She said it's possible she might have to do some sort of surgery to get the wound to heal if it does not improve; I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that. I'm supposed to return for a follow-up in two weeks, but I'm hoping the improvement will be great enough that that won't be necessary, since it costs $75 just to walk in the door.
If anyone has a similar problem at any point, message me and I can tell you the exact names and details of the medications, some of which, the topical ones at least, might be available over the counter. This was no cheap cure, but better this than Wallace lose his fingers!
