Cut on toe: Could get infected.

Hi all.

Last night I found a cut on Sparks toe, the long one on his back foot. He has had a few cuts when he was only little. On on his foot and one on his neck. I used a diluted betadine to stop infection.

I used some this morning and he didn't like it. Im hoping it doesn't start to get infect or it might have to be amputated.

The cut isn't very deep at all, but im still worried.

Do you have any idea how he/she is getting them?

Is there ANYTHING in his/her housing that could be doing it? If so I'd get rid of it.

Also check his/her claws are they needle sharp? Just nipping the end off them with nail clippers would help, or rounding them off a bit with an emery board. (nail file, not metal type, one that looks like sand paper.)

I know they're a completely different creature, but they still had sharp claws, I used fine sand paper to file the tips of the claws down on my Ratties, to stop them hurting me when I picked them up.

You only need to rasp the very tip off to stop them being really sharp.

My Ratties would fidget and fight me if I tried to clip their claws, so I kept them trim with various rough surfaces, and by filling off the needle-like tips.
