I know you can use Plexiglas or glass and hinges. This would create a transparent door that would open up or down. You can use a simple gate type lock on the door to keep it from opening during closed operation.....

I don't have any pics as I have the sliding doors, but the concept of hinges should give you some base ideas.....

Good luck

I also did a cross fire alternative. The sliding doors would be nice but I altered the crossfire big time so I went with doors. My viv that im building is 4'x2'x31in height.

On the left door I have a top and bottom post to keep the door in place and just a simple cabinet lock. I also have a 36in x 13in hole in the roof to fit my screen lid from my 36gal tank, plus I thought it would give it better ventalation. Its still a work in progress :) I love building things. It gives that self gratification. I have plans for an outside viv so they can run around with out me worring too much.

I used glass because plexi would scratch over time. I have a nice wood shop so i have plenty of tools to work with :D . First I cut the wood with 45 degree angle for the picture frame that goes around the glass. Gotta make sure all angles are perfect and can fit on straight for the next step. You will need a table saw. Set the blade to 1/2in high and cut about an 1/8in groove in the middle of frame. Put the frame together but only 3 sides, so it should look like a I_I if your cut were straight the glass should slide down the grooves. Then you add the top of the frame to seal it in. I can add some more pics tomorrow to help you out

I had to pull out some scrap wood to show you what im talking about

1st gotta cut out picture frame

2nd make sure everything lines up

3rd set your table saw at an 1/2in and make your groove in the middle of the wood on all 4 pieces.

4th nail/glue 3 pieces together and make sure all grooves line up *perfectly*. Then you can just slide the glass in the U frame and add the top.

I put these barrel bolts in on top and bottom on the left door only, so i kinda have like a french door set up.
I was thinking bout starting a little side job doing this, some friends saw what I was building and they were thinking bout placing some orders, lol. I figured this would be a great side job for me because Im doing what I love to do. When Im done with my viv I will have a post on the finished product, it should be real nice :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
