Croaker has tasted the blood of humanity

So, a few days ago, my girlfriend was hand-feeding Croaker some blackberries (his new favorite food) when he bit one in half. She tried to pick up the fallen portion about the same time he reached for it, and sank his teeth into her finger, biting right through her nail. His teeth then caught on it, and he bit down again trying to get free.

He refused blackberries for several days after. I guess people don't taste all that good.

The girlfriend felt bad for him, though. She also said her hand went numb and was tingly. I guess they are a wee bit venomous.

They arent vememos but have dirty mouths. They can carry salmonella. You should wash your hands very well after getting bit by them. My female got my once. It didnt really hurt as much as surprised me.

They are. Check out the scientific journal Nature for 2005. ""Early evolution of the venom system in lizards and snakes""

They are indeed slightly venomous brittani.

People argued about it quite a bit here:

Here's a GREAT source (there are others)
http://www.smh.com.au/news/science/venom-research-badmouths-goannas/2005/11/17/1132016892739.html

"His international team, which includes researchers from Monash University, has identified nine types of toxins from lizard venom which snakes also produce. One toxin found in the venom of the bearded dragon, one of the most popular pet lizards in the world, had previously been identified only in rattlesnake venom."

It's amazing how much we do not know yet about our dearest pets.

Thanks for the links! I should have said that they are " vemamous" as all reptiles are in a way but it is so deluted that it can't actually do any harm to us. Now lets say you are a tiny bug then you might be in some trouble

The little girl in me always wanted the deadly komodo dragon as a pet. It's so cool to know our beardeds are modeled very similarly, right down to the venom. It's certainly not deadly for us, but as you said, I imagine my dubia roaches don't feel so good when they encounter it haha

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
