Hi I was wondering what do i put into my 20L and 8L Crickett containers i ordered 1500 Crickets and am going to use 500 crickets for breeding and the 1000 Crickets for feeding. But im not sure what to put into the containers for the Crickets (exsample food, water, bedding, etc) Please help ty. I was told Oatmeal was good as bedding.
Get plenty of cardboard egg crates / cartons to pile up inside the containers. For that many crickets, you really need much larger containers than those...unless I'm doing my conversions wrong. 20 Liter and 8 Liter? I believe that translates to about 5 gallons and 2 gallons. For 1500 and 500 crickets you really should give them more space than that, especially if you plan to breed them. Otherwise, you can have all kinds of problems including cricket cannibalism. Not to mention, it will be very difficult to clean. For that many crickets, you should use at least 20-gallon ( or about 76 L container) .
If you really are unable to get larger containers, you'll need to collect LOTS and LOTS of egg crates to place inside your small containers in order to break up the space between crickets. The egg pockets in those crates help give crickets their own space and prevent them from attacking / eating each other.
For food, what the person above said is fine. Potatoes are fine. Fruits and veggies and seeds work. Cat food is alright, just not the most nutritious. Just be sure to remove the fresh food regularly so it doesn't go bad and infect the enclosure. If you use fresh fruit daily, then you don't need to provide water. If you're not using fresh food, than a wet sponge will work for the insects to drink off of. Don't fill any small containers with water because your bugs are liable to drown. Hope this helps and good luck!
