Crickets on the loose

I got home today to find our dogs had knocked our cricket container off of their kennel into the bathtub sending hundreds of 1/4" chirpers into the wild comforts of our home. A few renegades had escaped the smooth confines of the tub which were promptly orecked, the less adventurous huddled in their social clicks like they were waiting for the Red Cross to show up. I closed the tub drain, realizing I was sentencing possibly hundreds to their uncertain doom, but I had to put emotions aside and tend to the task at hand. I began the tedious chore of collecting the cricket cuisine, unfortunately severing limbs and other fatal wounds with, ironically, an empty bandaid box. Eventually, I had gathered the masses and began the next stage of the mission, cleaning the tub. I turned on the water, figuring these guys were so small, they would just take a river ride and disappear, out of site out of mind. But the water would not even drain. I got desperate, could they have formed some sort of arachnid clog? I grabbed the plunger and went to work. I tried and tried but the bug ball would not budge. As I stood up to go retrieve a sewer snake, I noticed the drain lever was still closed. Sure am glad nobody was around to see that.

We had ordered crickets over the internet for the first time, and they arrived on thursday (11/29), first the mail man almost dropped them, luckily my hubby was there and caught them before they hit the ground.. secondly, we thought they were in a box inside the box but when we opened them.. nope.. nothing but egg crates with crickets climbing all over them! luckily none escaped, we quickly shut the box until we figured out how to get them out.. LOL.

I think we have all been there.

My first time experience was opening the box with the same thoughts and quickly closing it to keep them in.
Crisis averted!

Hubby decides to cut a hole in the box and put one of the black tubes in to "get them out easier"

Well after about 10 minutes I see them running across the floor and calmly point and say "i think your plan failed."

He was scrambling trying to catch them while I shook my head.

Yea I had dubia mishaps. Ugh they are soooo evil. We live in an apartment complex and man, it was hard trying too find them. One female was even in my shoe! I almost put it on when I saw it come out of the hole. Soooo gross. I screamed lol

Oh my.. My "worst" fear is that there will be a cricket/dubia in my shoe!

(Wayy before Buddy, I was driving and there was something in my shoe, the whole time I was driving I was "toeing" whatever was in my shoe. Get to my destination and find out I was tearing apart a cricket. My socks had guts on it. The poor cricket was tortured for the whole drive, 30 mins. It was in pieces when I took it out. Now it's my fear.)

I once woke up in the middle of the night with a hopper crawling up top my inner thigh. The little violator lived a short high before I squished him.
