Cricket's keep biting tail and making it bleed.

I feel stupid asking this, but what should I do besides get more antibiotic from the vet about it. Cricket's keep biting the end of her tail and making it bleed. I've wrapped a warm, wet paper towel around it for a few minutes until it stopped bleeding and putting ointment on it. Is there anything else I can do? I'm calling the vet tomorrow morning about getting more.

How can I stop the crickets from biting on her tail? Stop feeding her crickets altogether?

Keep it clean and keep using the ointment. Make sure the crickets are well feed and never leave any loose crickets in cage, especially overnight. You might try feeding her in a separate tub so there are no crix in her cage.

hi :)
sorry about this problem you are having! Like Gail said, def make sure there are no crix on the loose overnight in the viv. But is also see that you asked about stopping crix altogether...
i personally did this with my beardie Blue, we are now cricket free :)

There are some wonderful alternatives to crix if you want to take the worm route!
SuperWorms (they recommend these to be fed to beardies that are 15 or more inches, Blue is just about 11 inches and she eats them very well, she poops great and is very regular, so you would just monitor that) and ReptiWorms are great, as an example....
with the Supers you can just put one at a time down in front of your beardie, like on the floor, and Supers are so "movement" oriented that your beardie will DEF see it and be able to grab it up ... no jumping away and crazy catching worries like with crickets. And they are REALLY easy to keep, alot cleaner than smelly crix and have alot longer life span i think!
crix seem to die off so easily or drown or carry parasites...not they they are not a great food, but just in my opinion its nice to vary up a diet anyhow
(can you tell i reallllly dont like crickets yet lol) ....
Wtih ReptiWorms, well they are basically just black soldier fly larvae, and cant really climb out of a bowl with some depth to it, especially a slick bowl, like even a shallow ceramic one with no traction. They will squiggle around and are alot safer than crix in the manner that you can put some in a bowl and feel confident that they really arent going to go anywhere.
PLUS, RepitWorms have an AWESOME amount of calcium naturally within them so you dont have to calcium dust them :) They are easy to keep too :)

that is where i get mine from. they ship out and come within 2 days usually, its super convienent and a good food!
Just thought i would throw that out there since you are having cricket issues anyhow, and mentioned maybe stopping crix.
Something to think about :)
I hope things get better!!!!

One last thought!

Supers come in a few different sizes .... you can get them in small and medium. not just the large. If your beardie is smaller, then you always go with some micros or mediums....or large ofcourse, all depedning on his/her length :) i never thought i would love a worms as much as i do repti's and super's. teehee. oh the crazy things we suddenly start to love when we have BEARDIE POWER!
Blue is eating the medium ones right now.

The entire problem is the crix being left in the enclosure, you just can't do it.

I feed little ones in a separate tank (a 40 breeder) and as soon as they stop eating, put them back into their home. I do hand feed them to a certain extent, so I'll often hand them a few crix/roaches without moving them, but NEVER release a feeder into the BDs home.

I agree with everything that's been said. I use a big Rubbermaid container when feeding Tiki. Also, crickets have a habit of jumping on the dragon - make sure to watch her during her entire feeding session. If a cricket jumps on her, knock it off ASAP!

I'd love to feed her Supers. Currently, they freak me out on a massive level. Tiki is just 15'' - I'm a tad reluctant.

Have you tried Dubias???? Easy to care for, no smell or chirping. And they wont bite even if they are left in the viv.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
