Cricket poop

Ok any suggestions on the storage and cleaning of crickets, we keep about 1000 on hand at any give time, my daughter (12yrs old) is responsible for feeding, cleaning and watering the crickets. But we seem to have issues with keeping the cricket enclosure clean, lots and lots of cricket waste. Any suggestions on a way to "sift" it out or a bottom to put in their aquarium with out having to empty it out all together, we are willing to built one if needed.

I used to keep them 1000 at a time in a 20g tank as well. What I did was put down a bedding of wood chips (the kind you buy for a guinea pig or rabbit). I had the cardboard tubes on one side and the food/water dishes on the other. On cleaning day, I'd move the tubes to one side, shoo the crickets into their cardboard tubes and remove the dirty substrate on that side and put down new chips. Then I'd move the tubes over to the clean side and shoo them all over there and repeat on the second side. Maybe not an ideal solution, but it worked for me.

I use a bare storage bin. Egg crates on one side food on the other. Wash out with hot soapy water after all the crickets get ate.
