I've always heard that bearded dragons are good reptiles for novices. However, on Craigslist, you see so many healthy looking geckos, etc., but so many skinny bearded dragons. Why is that?

P.S.
Here is a link to a Kansas City craigslist bearded dragon posting but up last night. He looks so skinny that I can't even believe that he's alive.

Just an aside.. I'd say 80% of the geckos I've seen from CL, and on CL look horrible. I don't think any reptile is "easy". Everything takes work.

this is just my opinion.
most dragons you see on cl are there because the buyer bought a pooper on a whim rather than finding out what the propper care for a dragon really is.
I cant speak for the geckos because ive seen both good and bad.

Yeah, the picture is really sad. I can only hope that someone experienced who really wants a rescue project is able to take that little guy.

Another visual reason not to house beardies together . . .

Wish I was closer, I'd take him and see if I could rehab him.

actually i live in oregon and i bought my beardie from a lady on craigslist who had two and she thought they were figting and learned later they were a boy and a girl so i bought the boy and he is super healthy..kinda skttish of me but thats expected the first couple days to a week, he was however the bigger one or the dominant one in the cage ..so maybe thats why i dunnno im pretty pleased with my craigslist baby

I've got a beardie right now that I am rehabing, named her Kana. Full adult that someone surrendered, obviously didn't have a UVB light or proper heating and food. :angry5: I personally think that most people put up animals on CL when they can't take care of them, or have discovered that they don't know how to take care of him. Kana didn't look as bad as the one in the link you posted, people who let their animals get that bad have no right to be pet owners. I hope someone can take care of him.

I really hope all his/her dragons find great homes where they will be loved.

I wish I wouldn't have seen that, it breaks my heart. Unfortunately I can't afford to take on another bearded dragon, especially not one in that shape- he needs more care and time than I could offer. It makes me feel especially bad since I'm from KC. Sadly there are a LOT of animals on craigslist that are in terrible shape- not just reptiles, though reptiles seem to be the worst of them. I know that I've noticed that there have been a crap ton of leopard geckos on craigslist recently trying to sell for Christmas. The reason, I think, they look so well is bc they are nocturnal and don't require the lighting, etc that a bearded dragon would need. I just hope someone takes that bearded dragon on, hes worst out of all the ones the person has listed.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
