Could this be a hereditary/ Gene thing?

Yesterday we adopted a beardie that no-one wanted because it only has a stump for a tail, first off i thought it was one of those baby beardie "incidents" and it had been nipped off.
Although it turned out his dad has exactly the same tail "defficiancy" and so do a couple of his siblings so i was wondering could this be a part of his genetic make up or not?

Hello,

Could you post a picture of that? They normally are not born with "nipped off looking" type of tails.
Severe inbreeding can cause genetic defects & deformities though.

if they were all housed in the same manner from the same store, perhaps they all got thier tails nipped? but i hope it isnt anything more then that for his sake
