Guess what! I've been having a heck of a time getting Wasabi to bask lately when I was using the Reptisun 10. When she would bask she would often close one eye on the side nearest the Reptisun no matter how I tried to adjust it and made sure it was the correct distance from her. I replaced her old Reptisun with a new one and same thing. Tried putting her basking bulb on a dimmer and adjustable stand even tried a different wattage and moved it up and down so it would stay at the correct temps and that didn't help either.
So I changed to the Powersun on 6/29 (with an adjustable stand to get the temps right) and she is finally getting out to bask again. She spent a long time there yesterday and is half and half today (before she would just stay off to the side of her tank). We kept checking on her and she has stopped doing the one eye closed winking thing off and on too. I've always monitored her temps with an IR thermometer and they have been good. The only thing I changed was I stopped using the Reptisun and a basking bulb combo and I switched to just the Powersun.
The Reptisun was never exactly over the middle of her tank. It was always a little off to the side so it would overlap with her basking bulb. It was also a brighter white light so I am thinking that it made her uncomfortable? I'm going to watch over the coming weeks and see if the improvement sticks. She has always been under a Reptisun 10 at the recommended distance (or even a little bit further from it depending on where she decided to bask on her logs). She is in a 40 breeder. I am going to pop in a regular flourescent bulb to increase the ambient light and see if she starts closing her eye and not wanting to bask much again.
Boy she makes me crazy! I bet shes doing it on purpose to make me work more. "Where's meh slave at". I'm just sharing since I'm a little perplexed and my gears are turning.
