I took in a rescue beardie last October. Hoppy, is approx. 2.5 years old, and nose to base of tail he is only 5" long. He is missing all but the tiniest stub of tail and one of his rear feet. He was temporarily housed with a much bigger beardie,(before I got him) and the beardie tried to kill him......how he survived this long is a minor miracle at least. He did not get vet attention after being attacked, but thankfully healed completely from what I can tell. He did not have UV lighting until he arrived here, he did have 1 small red heat light, lettuce, crickets, pelleted food and occasional calcium.
He has definitely put on weight, and eats well, crickets, repti-worms, hornworms, greens. Shows no signs of MBD thankfully but I am worried about his long term health for obvious reasons. Because of his lack of early nutrition/growth do I now feed him like a young beardie.......more protein, less vegetables or do I feed him the way I should feed a normal 2 year old adult Beardie........more veggies, less protein? I would post a pic, but have no idea how to do so.
He is a sweet little guy, still adjusting to us a bit, a little skittish but hopefully he will lose some of that once he is used to us more. He does have the recommended UV 10.0 reptisun plus a ceramic heat bulb and 6o watt flood light. He does not bask if temps are too high, he likes them 95-100, otherwise he sits in the shade of the warm side of his 20gal tank.....right now there is no need for a larger tank.
Any thoughts for making him as healthy as possible and feeding him correctly are appreciated? Also any health issues I should watch for?
Thanks
