it's because your basking area is almost to the cold side. you have to put your basking area all the way to one side if you plan to cool the other side off. also do you have any vents in that tank?

I love that concept and, it looks great.... Awesome job!

We all learn as we go, its all trial and, error! You came to the right place to learn proper dragon husbandry. All of us started out just as you have. Most pet store employees don't have a clue what it really takes to care for a dragon. Dragons are not a beginner reptile by any stretch of the imagination. So please don't take this the wrong way when I try and, help you through this. Together we will keep your dragon happy and, healthy!
Dragons see in full spectrum color with good UVA. Yellow or any other color light, distorts their vision (confuses them), you really need to get a bright white light for proper UVA. Good lighting is the key to good health.
You were most likely told by a pet store employee that that crushed walnut shell substrate was good for dragons. I hate to say this but it is very hazardous. Dragons tend to lick things when exploring and, that spacious viv has lots of room for that. Add that to when he eats his bug meals and, he is bound to ingest it. Crushed walnut shells have sharp pointed edges that can cut your buddies intestinal tract, it like most loose substrates can cause impaction as well. Impaction can cause paralysis and, death if not caught in time. It is also a breeding ground for bacteria. I always recommend rough textured tile, it is easier to keep clean and sanitize. Nonadhesive shelf paper, paper towels and, newsprint are also good ones to use.
Those green hammocks can do real harm to your dragon when they get their claws hung in them. Dragons panic and, start pulling and, yanking their feet to free them and, in the process tearing out claws, pulling off fingers, dislocating joints and, breaking bones. You can cover it with fleece or some other snag proof material.
I hope this helps you in your bearded dragon adventures!

Do you have a router or a dado blade for your table saw? If so using 3/4" x 4' material cut two slots 1/4" deep an1/8" apart . using another 3/4" x 4' board cut the same but, cut the slots 1/2" deep for the top this will allow you to put in and remove the glass by lifting up and pulling out the bottom. Note: slots need to be a 1/16" wider than the glass thickness used.

Okay thanks for all the responds...i'm just gona type answers to questions .. i routed the lines in wood which are a bit wider than glass itself and mounted aluminium railings in wood...glass slides with just the right force .... What do you guys think about mounting a fan inside terarium or on top of it so air can circulate...i do have 2 big vents on top but i dont know they just dont work as i planed because terarium is really big ...About the substrate hmm what do you recomend specificly i would leave sand on 1side just switch the other side of terarium with whatever u recomend. He really likes digging in sand and playing around so 1 side will stay sandy the other feeding side can be changed.Oh yeah totaly forgot do you might have an idea why did my basking spot lightbulb die 30mins after i instaled it? I have temporary one inside ...what could be problem? Thanks for all the answers

I'm building a 48"X48" corner viv, but I've got my lighting and ventilation setup different. However, I haven't lit mine up yet, so I can't say for sure what my temps are like. I'll post a picture of my updates today so you can see what I'm doing, but in the mean time, here is a thread on my viv:

viewtopic.php?f=75&t=233838

#1) See those windows I've got on the front. Those will be screened.
#2) For the top what I've done (you'll see in the new pics) is make a removable top with about a 2X2 hole in the top covered by a wire mesh type stuff. This: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-2-in-x-2-ft-x-5-ft-19-Gauge-Galvanized-Steel-Hardware-Cloth-308221EB/205960835?MERCH=REC-_-rv_nav_plp_rr-_-NA-_-205960835-_-N

This should provide plenty of ventilation.

For my lighting what I'm going ot be doing is using a halogen flood light for basking and a Ceramic Heat Emitter. The flood light will be on a timer and the CHE will be on a thermostat. With the light mounted outside and above, they can always be raised if needed, though I don't anticipate needing to do that.

I don't see any clear ventilation in your setup. Ideally you'll have some high and some low ventilation, which crates a convection effect with cool airing coming in low and hot air exiting high.

Looks to me like you need holes in the top (which you say you have) and some holes about 8" up from the bottom along the sides. If your doors are made plexiglass then you can drill air holes into those. If they are glass then you need vents in the wood.

Posting this here in case someone has something to add to this:

This is a little bit of a funky idea, but what about making some hols about 2" in diameter in the bottom, and then putting like a tube in those holes that goes up about 5 or 6 inches above the level of the floor with a vented opening on the top of the tube. Basically like a snorkel. Maybe one in each corner?

You could even make then look like branches or something to make them blend in. I'd think you make the tube out of PVC and either paint it or encase it with wood, etc.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
