Cookie laid eggs...AGAIN

I rescued a big girl named that we named Cookie exactly 14 days ago. I took her & her boyfriend, Rampage from a guy who had them caged together for the last year in this crappy cage with screen OUTSIDE! He said that she was like a 1-1/2 yrs old and he was like a year old. They had 3 blacklights in the cage which he assured me "kept them warm", NO UVB! They were fed about 5 mealworms a day each and no calcium supplments. The female had laid about a dozen eggs the day that I received them but he had inadvertantly killed them, which is why he no longer wanted them, because they were breeding. (I've been feeding her as much as she can eat with a really nice variety and they both have their own home now).

So anyway for like 2 hours this morning I could hear this scratching noise and when I went to check what it was, I found Cookie hiding under her log scratching away in a corner of her cage. I did notice a decrease in her appetite in the last 2 days. I figured she would lay more eggs by next week at the soonest (that would be 3 weeks), but just in case I'm going to make her a lay box today. Should I offer her the lay box now or wait for more signs? I don't see or feel any eggs in the belly yet. Any tips/advice would be awesome.



******Well I was wrong with my last post, after her bath she went back in the box and started laying, she didn't really even dig a tunnel.

I might not be a help but if she laid the day you got her and that was 14 days ago, i dont think she is ready to lay again. IF she has some eggs stuck in her still she might be digging cause she wants to get rid of the stuck eggs. Im not sure tho i mean im not a expert here.

Maybe some one else can help you out. Im glad you did save them.

Well she was pretty thin then and I took her to a reptile store that is pretty good and they didn't feel any eggs either. After I moved her this morning she quit digging so maybe she is just getting ready this week to lay. She went from eating a WHOLE lot to me barely being able to get her to eat today.

No more digging today but I have the box and sand.

I have a stupid question though, how do you rinse the sand? Do you need to strain it? I'm a little confused about this, but I need to know so I can have the box ready in case she starts really digging again this week.

Also next Friday will be 3 weeks since she last laid, I can expect laying as soon as 3 weeks right? I know that it can take longer too but is it usually 3 weeks?

I got one infertile egg tonight. She is soaking right now and still no appetite. But completely ignoring the laybox.

I was gone all day yesterday, but she ate like a pig. Gone all day today too but I came back and she's back to digging.

Hi so how long ago did she lay her first clutch with the other owner? Is her lay box in her tank or is it a seperate laybox? Our girl has laid two clutches so perhaps I can help you out a little if you still need it? Just let me know..... cute name by the way and so happy that you were able to adopt them!

Well this Friday will be exactly 3 weeks since she last laid, I got her the same day she laid her first clutch.

Her lay box is in her cage as of today just because I'm gone all day. She is acting really strange, today when I went to clean the poop out of her cage she was digging and she hissed a little and then she did this funny little butt wiggle dance everytime I moved my hand in her cage, so I picked her up to put her in the bath and she was doing the same thing. To me she looks like there are eggs but she doesn't like when I touch the belly so I'm not going to anymore.

Hopefully with the egg box in the cage she will be more comfortable since shes really not comfortable with me yet.

Our girl laid her second clutch exactly 4 weeks later. We tried everything that was suggested and in the end she laid right in her tank. Happy in her home both times. We used moist sand and started a tunnel for her she took over from there. Problem was she would dig and dig then get on top of the tunnel to rest which would result in her tunnel crashing in So in the end we ran two boards across the top for support. She was able to get in and dig and make the perfect spot. Never to crash in again. Seems it was just trial and error with our girl. Second clutch she started scratching and we set everything up but it took a week till she laid. I had thought it would be 3 weeks but nope 4. I hope your girl is doing good and lays soon for you. Well she dug and dug all day, my daughter was home sick with my mom so she was keeping watch, but no eggs tonight. Can see and feel some eggs but I still don't think she is ready which is good because I will be gone all day tomorrow and won't be home in time to get an incubator. I will be off Friday and will get one, I'm still going to try to get one tomorrow so I can play with it to get the temps right.

Once she was done digging she got out and went and sat under her light, she had a pile of sand on her head, it was cute. So then I took her out and gave her a long soak in the bath, now shes backing to resting & not eating. So soon hopefully!

Ahhh....they are so cute Jub-Jub would come out with it stacked on her nose too. My daughter got some really cute pics. When she really started digging and digging intently she laid within 24 hours. So it sounds like it is close for you girl. They are so sweet. After she lays if you give her a nice long bath and then they eat like crazy lol. Has your girl slowed way down on eating? Jub slows down about the last week. I do believe she is off to her 3rd clutch. She is showing lumps again! Hope your daughter feesl better and the timing is alright with your schedule, the eggs and the incubator.....not enough hours in the day sometimes!

Oh I just saw your add on to your original post. So she did lay tonight? How many eggs? Where are they now and how is mama?
