Hello,

I am so sorry about little Chacoby. The loss is very devastating I know. She is not in pain now. You did a great job keeping her happy even when she probably didn't feel well. She was a beautiful dragon!

Hi NathanNatalie3002,
I'm so sorry you lost your little Chacoby. You tried so hard to help her. She knew she was loved and that matters!

I'm sorry for your loss, also. I was really hoping that with all the care and everything you were trying to do for her, that she would pull through. It sounds to me like a failure to thrive from the start and there was very likely nothing you could do for her. I wish they could tell us what is wrong, but we just have to try and do the best that we can.

Thankyou very much, the exotic vet said that it likely was, that Xena is healthy but got a fecal incase. He said there was little point doing a PM because what matters is here and now which is Xena, Chacoby will be missed very much she did not deserve it. I will let you know how the fecal goes.

Thanks again.

Hello guys, Xena's results came back from the fecal. The vet said that all levels were normal accept yeast was slightly higher, but he did not see the point in treating her as he said she seems happy and healthy and call back if I have any concern then she will be treated. He said it is more common in the winter, so he isn't that surprised. So anyone know of anything I can do to ensure the levels stay calm? Also, the light is on for 14hrs per day, I want to get this down to 12 now, as it is getting into the spring (although it is snowing haha) How do I do this? Just straight away or gradual? Thanks for your help :D

I think yeast comes from having fruit in the diet, or too much fruit. We need to look that up - did the vet mention that?

Hi,
The body naturally has yeast but it is kept in check with the intestinal bacteria commonly called the gut flora.
I'd get a probiotic and give that to her daily. It helps restore the natural gut flora which helps control the yeast.
Here is a informative link on Lactobacillus Acidophilus And Its Effects on Bearded Dragons ( http://www.reptilerooms.com/index.php?categoryid=17&p142_id=117&p142_dis=3&p142_template=Simple
Some examples of probiotics are BeneBac, Acidophulis and Soy yogurt. If you opt for the yogurt make sure it's
Soy yogurt as dragons don't digest dairy well.
Avoid sugars, fruits should only be an occasional treat or to aid with constipation. I never give my dragons fruit
even as a treat, only baby food applesauce occasionally if they get constipated. To much sugar in their
diet can cause a yeast bloom in there intestinal tract. There is some evidence that Yellow Fungus is a yeast.
Here is a link discussing that evidence. http://www.reptilerooms.com/index.php?categoryid=17&p142_id=115&p142_dis=3&p142_template=Simple
I hope this helps your little Xena!

Amanda, good information you gave there! I am the same as you, I don't feed fruit unless it's the medicine kind (applesauce, but we use the sugar free kind).

Hello the vet didn't mention fruit, but I do not see this as possible as I have never given her fruit in her life! How strange, she has never been given it not even once, just veg and livefood. Anyone know what else it could be? She is fine though, I am just taking precautions.

Thankyou

I really have no idea what causes them to have yeast, but Amanda had a good suggestion about the AcidolphiLiz. All of our dragons get this supplement (not daily, just occasionally) and it does help regulate good gut flora.

It won't hurt your dragon to give that a try. I hope someone else with 'yeast' experience comes on here to comment so the rest of us can learn! :D

Yes I think I will get a probiotic just to be on the safe side, she seems to grow every day and looks and acts healthy. One thing though, her lights come on at 7.30am and she takes a few hours to get out of bed now she is getting older, I literally have to get her up haha! She gets grumpy but is fine for the rest of the day, is this normal lazy beardy behaviour?

Pffft Chief would stay under his blanket all day long if we let him. :laughing6: He is aboout 8 months old. My girls are 6-7 months old and one is up with the sun, while the other lately has been wanting to sleep in. I honestly don't know what is normal since our beardies are all different. I can say that if I take the blankie off them they will go up and bask.

I am so glad she is growing and acting healthy. You must be doing something right!!! :blob8:

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
