Torro, my juvie boy of 5 months old is now only coming out of his hide to eat..

the weirdest thing is that this only started happening as of 2 days ago.. shortly after i posted about how nuts my 2 were.

All the temps are bang on, he is fed regularly with live food and greens as well. he has lots to do in his tank if he wants too...

just a bit mythed really as to why he has started doing this. as i say, he is 5 months old so this couldn't be Brumation yet? could it??

100w heat lamp. hot end 41c cool end 30.
3ft reptiglo 10.0
Basking spot is at 48c also.
Timer is on from 6.30am to 7.30 pm

It is, as far as I can tell through all my research the perfect set up.
I did also put this up on the rfuk forums and the guys on there say that because I changed the timer from 14hrs to 13hrs this can male them.slow down due to the winter months.

I am also going to reduce this by a further hour nearer to Xmas

Not so worried about it now as that would explain it, but any further info would be better to rest my mind

He's probably hiding away cos it's too hot, 48 is too high for the basking spot, it shouldn't really get much higher than 43.

Also the UV you have isn't the best, it can sometimes cause eye damage, and even when it doesn't it often leads to beardies being generally a bit under the weather. You might see improvement in his colours and general mood if you switch to the arcadia 12% (or the reptisun 10.0, but in the UK the arcadia is cheaper and it lasts twice as long, so it's the better choice)

sorry, but it is a reptisun...

i get awfully confused when its early in the morning

i will purchase the arcadia as i am yet to hear a bad word of it. i will order it on friday and get back to you on how he does :D

and 48 is the surface temp, not air temp.

cheers!

cool :)

I still think 48 is too high for the surface temp, everywhere I've read has said about 100-110f for babies, which is 38-43C, some places say up to 115, but 48 is 118, which is considerably higher, and certainly could explain why he isn't basking.

He seemed a bit more active this morning, unfortunately tho I have work for 12hrs today so can't monitor him.

But ill get the misses to see how he does this evening.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
