Hello everyone who may read this. Ive been a beardie owner for quite some time as well as a long time lurker here. This is my first post. I will try to be as detailed yet as brief as possible.
So i have 3 dragons total right now. One male, 2 years old. Two females, 2 years old and 8 months old. They are all in separate 40 gallon breeders that are for the most part set up the same way. Tile for substrate. Basking branch. Wood hide. reptisun 10.0 uvb. Reptihalogen basking bulbs different wattages for each dragon to have proper temps. All on the same diet of daily greens kale, mustard/turnip greens. And daily dubia roaches which i breed myself. So hopefully i painted a decent picture as far as husbandry. Now on to the problem.
My new female the 2 year old ive had for a little over a month. Since ive received her she has pooped daily but its always either really loose and liquidy or just straight up diarrhea. Oh and the smell is horrid. It can smack you in the face from across the house. Its how i know shes pooped.... Not only that but if she does it in the bath i can clearly see dubia wings and other chitin type parts. (keep in mind all temps are spot on as i laser test it daily) At first i assumed it was from the stress of being in a new place and figured it would clear itself up. It hasnt. Because she was having diarrhea daily i was worried about dehydration so i was giving frequent baths. Still happening so then i thought maybe she was too hydrated and that maybe i was making it worse. So i didnt bathe her for a week. Still diarrhea. Now to make things worse the 8 month baby has the same symptoms. So i figure its something im feeding them. But they all eat the same stuff and the male is fine. Nice solid stool every other day. Then it dawns on me. I bathe the females together. Then i sanitize the tub and the bathe the male. It has to be something the older female brought with her. Considering everything was fine till she arrived. Plus she eats more than any other beardie i know. Almost as ive shes starving every day. Shell eat a whole handful of greens. Then shell eat dubia until i have to stop because if i dont shell eat like 20 large male dubia in less than 5 minutes. Im thinking some type of worm or intestinal parasite. Which could have transferred to the other female through bath time. I bathe them separately now. I just received a bottle of panacur and probiotics (from beardeddragon.co) for after the deworming. I havent treated them yet. I wanted to post this and get some input before i do. If most of the input is leaning towards my theory being correct then i will start the process tomorrow.
Sorry for the wall of text. Im just concerned because out of the 15 years of my life owning dragons ive never had this issue (maybe im lucky). So i want to be a s detailed as possible. Im sure some will say get a fecal done. But i have no rep vets within a 3 hours drive radius. And after tons of OCD research i really think its parasites. Even if its not i dont think it would harm them to deworm them and then treat with probiotics to replace the good bacteria. If the problems persist after this then ill have no choice but to take that 3 hour trip there and 3 hours back for the sake of my dragons. All input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
