I love the commercially made foods and use them at home, and in the stores we use them as well. Much like dog and cat kibble, it's essentially a pelleted form of nutrients and calories that beardies need. It can be a beneficial addition to a healthy diet, to include pellets.
Read the ingredients on the label to decide which has contents you are the most comfortable with. Some folks are really against preservatives or other chemicals in their animal's food, even if they are how certain vitamins are added in, some could care less as long as the animal is getting what it needs.
The Rep Cal brand smells the tastiest, and gets the best initial response from most dragons. ZooMed has the most all-natural ingredients, although the beardies don't always go for it right away, and may need some coaxing to try it. The ZooMed canned food smells even better than the Rep Cal pelleted food, and most hungry beardies (if your beardie is spoiled they don't always try it) will eat it right up.
I also prefer feeding the canned worms (which are retorted, or cooked in the can) rather than the freeze dried, but unlike other mammal canned foods they are not designed in any way to appeal to the humans opening the can. Some people get rather turned off by the smell, but insects cooked in their own juices naturally don't smell that appealing. The animals love them though, so that is also something to consider in addition to the pelleted diets.
