Cocidia Question!!!!!

Hey all,
My girl Spyro got diagnosed with cocidia, pinworms, and giardia two saturdays ago (im told she got them from petsmart) and got done with her albon last week. She had a follow up shot today for the worms but no more albon treatment. Her poop went from horrid to almost odorless. Shes been without her normal cage furnishing for awhile now and my question is if its ok put her tile and stuff back in. Ive been taking her out of her cage to poop in bath or on paper towels everyday and she has yet to go in her cage, and im also feeding her outside of cage to prevent inegstion of parasites. So is it ok to put everything back in?

Ps. I bleached everything two weeks ago and im told cocidia only lives for 7-10 days

Poor girl. I'm glad to hear she's getting better. You may want to hold off on putting everything back just a bit longer to be on the safe side. In the meantime, I suggest picking up a bottle of F10SC disinfectant and using that to thoroughly clean everything. Either that or use a steam cleaner (and rinse/bake wood items). How is her appetite now?

I have kept everything out for over two weeks and have disinfected it all. Shes on newspaper right now so i just chuck it everyday. She never really lost apetite so that leads me to think the infection was never too bad. She eats like crazy

It's great that her appetite is up! If you're confident everything is disinfected then it should be OK to put back. I don't believe bleach kills coccidia though. F10SC should do it or you could try a 10% ammonia solution. I prefer using a steam cleaner as it relies on heat (and is effective) without using harsh chemicals.

Even if the bleach didnt do the trick ( thats what my herp suggested) the stuff has been out of her cage for 14 days and cocidia only lives 7-10. So in theory, id be ok? Idk lol all of this is complicated and a lot of work. Just want her to be comfy again

It is confusing and quite a bit of work, I agree. It will probably be fine. If her immune system was able to destroy the rest of the infection there shouldn't be anything to worry about. I just tend to err on the side of paranoia/overprotection so take my thoughts with a grain of salt.

And im correct in remembering that cocidia is only re-introduced when its eaten correct? So as long as i keep feeding her outside the cage and she keeps pooping out it should be ok. I just thought of this though. When she poops she usually has some of the liquid left on her stomach and i always take her to the bath to rinse her off. When i put her back in the cage is that re-introducing the cocidia or should it have been washed off along with the liquid. Sorry for all the questions lol

As far as I know, it's passed on via ingestion of infected material. As far as re-introducing it after a bath... There's only so much you can do. If the infection has been stopped and then eliminated by her immune system and all other surfaces she comes into contact with are now clear, I don't think the risk of re-infection is all that high. That's just based on what little I know of it though.
