Hey guys,
People who read my introduction post know that I'm from Mexico and here in Mexico in the desert regions there are wild bearded dragons. They have been seen eating these cochineal bugs in the wild but I never thought about bringing that to my own captive bred beardie. Anyways I thought about it because I was talking to the guy that I get my crickets from (he's a local feeder breeder) and he told me that he sells these bugs and that they are great for geckos, baby monitors, water dragons and so on, so he told me to try some with my bearded dragon but I politely said no since I didn't know much about it.
So I decided to do my research in regards of the nutritional value of these kinds of bugs and the specific species that lives in Mexico and maybe any research on reptiles eating those, and I actually found them to be an extremely good source of calcium, protein and very low in fat for reptiles and amphibians, plus they are easy to breed apparently.
I wanted to ask u guys the experts, what do u think about trying these as a staple for my beardie. Have u ever heard about any reptiles in captivity eating these?
Thank you and have a good day.
