Closing One Eye

I'm a first time bearded dragon owner and i just got a new dragon yesterday. he's about 4 or 5 months old, and i noticed that sometimes he closes his left eye (right eye open). Is this normal?

I have a reptisun 10.0 uvb bulb (36"). 100w basking bulb. cold side averages around 76 during the day and 70 at night. the basking spot averages around 98.

Is it possible that a piece of shed skin has got in his eye? Because if so, should i bath him even though he still seems a little nervous (has stress lines, especially when i stroke his back a little).

It's not uncommon for them to close one eye at a time.

Your basking temperature is a bit low though. Is 98 the surface temp of the basking spot? or is it the general temp on the hot side?

98 is the surface temp of the basking spot. although, he is opening his mouth at times which correct me if im wrong, but i think it means he is hot. does this mean that the temp is ok, or should i get a higher wattage bulb?

I would get that to around 105 or so, 98 isn't really hot enough for bearded dragons.

Hey!!

I'm also a newbie dragon owner but I can tell you that for what I know the closing on one eye is really common. It also shows that they're calm around you, Mainly when they do it with you holding them.
