Hey there, So i finally have my beardie and he (he for the time being anyways) is awesome! Seems pretty damn happy in his viv. Named him Thor!
Question is.. When hes basking on occasion he will close his eyes for a short time, sometimes a few seconds, sometimes maybe a minuite or so. Temp is currently 102.7, Im thinking hes just relaxing and chillin out but just thought id be safe and ask if that was normal. Thaaanks

I don't know if there's any reason for concern yet, but, what kinda of uvb light are you using? I know from experiance that it's hard to find the proper lighting on the island and the wrong lights can cause eye problems.

Edit: I was just reading a couple of your other posts. Are you still using a CFL? If so that could be hurting his eyes, how long untill your reptisun is due? Also $65 is a lot, try ordering from this site next time http://www.petsandponds.com/en/reptile-supplies/c194883/index.html it's where I got mine, you'll save yourself around $20 after shipping. Also you may want to bump that basking temp up to somewhere between 105 and 110.

And what part of the island are you on, if you don't mind me asking?

im sorry to tell you, but i think ZooMed only makes a T12 ReptiSun.

yours only fits T8? you might have to bite the bullet and get a fixture that can handle a full size fluorescent tube.

what are the dimensions of your tank? maybe your enclosure is big enough to support a mercury vapor bulb. they get alot hotter and the produce loads more UVA and UVB. if your in a cool part of the world than you can probably make it work in a 40 gallon, but if your in a hotter part of the world it might make the whole cage too hot(cool side has to stay about 80F).

Its a 4x2x2 viv with two keyless lamp holders.. one for a nightllite and the other has my basking light, until i get a tube i have a temp light hanging with the uvb coil in it. The wire for the flour. is there jjust capped off for the time being and tucked away safely. I think a MVB would get to hot because my basking spot light hangs down about 7 inches from top. Im pretty sure they make it in a T8 but its hard to track down. I called another pet store and they are looking in to it for me. Its no big deal if i do have to take the fixture back.. im an electrician so if i tell the wholesalers im bringing it back they dont back talk haha. Ill see what comes up from the other pet store though

Re: ReptiSUN 10.0 changing its bulb?

There is a lot of misinformation on this thread. T12 bulbs are 12/8" diameter. T8 bulbs are 8/8" diameter. The only difference in the bulb is the diameter of the lamp. The phosphor blend that coats the inside of the lamp is what determines the spectrum. This does not have to change from one diameter to the other if the manufacturer doesn't want it to.

And unless you are using waterproof endcaps which seal around the circumference of a lamp the T8 lamps will fit the same sockets as a T12. Both lamps use medium bi pin sockets. The difference will be an increase in energy efficiency and lower mercury content with the T8 over the T12.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

so im not sure what kind of fixture you have but it should take either T12 or T8.

I heard about them coming out with T8's but I don't know if the change in bulb size would affect the performance of the bulb. People say it won't change it, but as far as I know the Reptiglo series were good bulbs untill they were redesigned and changed to T8's. Right now as far as I know they just make T12's. Pet mountain doesn't ship to Canada, belive me I tried... But in short you should probably go back to your wholesaler and get a T12 fixture, if they do end up going the way of the T8's, they will fit in your T12 fixture.

Qualicum Beach is near Parksville right? I'm not too far away from there right now, staying at Mt Washington while I'm taking my first year electrical in Campbell River.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
