Cleaning your dragon?

9 times out of 10 plain water is enough to get Toa clean, but lately he has been pooping on his basking spot and laying in it. His tail was covered today! Luckily I smelled it before putting him on my shirt.

So my question is, when water isn't enough what do you use? I found some cleaner on beardeddragon.co that is supposed to be all natural and it is cheap, it also has good reviews.

Is there a DIY cleanser that you guys like?

I don't know about a cleaner but I do take a soft tooth brush and scrub my dragons scales if he gets in his poo. He doesn't seem to mind it and it gets the smell and poo off quite nicely

You could uses a little diluted dish soap like Dawn Dish Soap. It's safe to use on baby birds, oil slicked ducks and seals, puppies and kittens. It's safe for beardie too. Personally I use chlorohexidine scrub (but I work at the animal hospital so this product is easy for me to get).

Don't dip your lizard into water that has soap in it. Remember they absorb water through the pores on their legs, so soaking him in the water with dish soap would be like letting him drink the water. Take a toothbrush, put a dab of soap on it, hold the beardie in one hand, and then scrub the area that is dirty. After you are done scrubbing, let some water run over the area to rinse off the soap, while making sure the soap does not come into contact with the pores on his legs. I used baby shampoo on my beardie, I usually scrubbed his back only since he was stinky for some reason I could not figure out.

I ended up getting the soap linked to above (before the dawn suggestion). He was not to happy about the extra scrubbing but he is not longer a stinky dragon! Thanks for all the advice!

Like Esther I use the almond scented castile soap and never had a problem with it and its not an overwhelming scent, its very light.
